Titabor Town
Titabor or Titabar is a town in the Jorhat district of Assam in India. It is about 20 km away from Jorhat City. It is one of the highly greeny places of Assam almost surrounded by different tea-estates. The town serves as the administrative headquarters of the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Thengal Manor Front
The Thengal Kachari people are an indigenous ethnic group of Assam, India. They are manily concentrated in the Jorhat, Golaghat, North Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts. Etymology There are different theories regarding the origin of the term Thengal. As per the census of India, 1891, the Thengal kacharis derive their name from an ancestor who is said to have ascended to heaven leg foremost. But according to Jogeswar Borah, earlier the Thengals used to wear ''a pantaloon called "Thenga"'' from which the name has been derived. They are also called as 'Rupowal' from their traditional occupation as silver washers. However, some people in recent time don't prefer this term. Hemendra Prasad Barooah
Hemendra Prasad Barooah (1926–2013), was an Indian entrepreneur, tea planter and philanthropist known for his contributions to Assam tea and tourism industries. He was honoured by the Government of India, in 2013, that bestowed on him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to the fields of trade and industry. Bijoy Krishna Handique
Bijoy Krishna Handique (12 October 1934 – 26 July 2015) was an Indian politician who was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He represented the Jorhat constituency of Assam and was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He was the only son of Krishna Kanta Handique, a renowned Indologist. Tarun Gogoi
Tarun Gogoi (11 October 1936 – 23 November 2020) was an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories and was the longest serving chief minister of the state.
