Firebase Tinsley
Firebase Tinsley, formerly known as Firebase Cobra, was a United States military fire support base, located in Oruzgan Province in Afghanistan. This base was established by the Charlie Company "Cobras" of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry who were deployed with the 25th Infantry Division (Light) out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The base was named Firebase Cobra until the death of Capt. John Tinsley near there in August 2009. It was featured in National Geographic's "Inside the Green Berets" television series. The U.S. Army's 3rd Special Forces Group is stationed there. On November 2, 2007 the SF Group, and members of the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police, left the base to get the nearby village of Sarsina, to perform a humanitarian aid and medical capabilities mission. Tinsley is an unincorporated community located in Yazoo County, Mississippi, United States. Tinsley is approximately south of Yazoo City and North of Oil City near U.S. Route 49. History Tinsley had a post office, several stores, and a population of 50 in 1907. In 1939, Tinsley Oil Field, located south of the settlement, was the site of the first commercial discovery of oil in Mississippi. A line of the Illinois Central Railroad passes through Tinsley. In 1941, a freight train rear-ended another freight train at Tinsley. The impact derailed 28 cars, including 13 carrying molasses. Tinsley House is a United Kingdom Immigration Removal Centre (IRC), where individuals are held while awaiting decisions on their asylum claim or considered for deportation from the UK for various reasons. It is located on Perimeter Road South of Gatwick Airport in Gatwick, West Sussex, England. Tinsley House is managed by security firm Serco on behalf of Border Force. When Tinsley House was established in 1996, it was the UK's first purpose-built detention centre. Since then, the UK's detention estate has expanded substantially and there are now nine immigration removal centres. Some individuals are also detained in short-term holding facilities and prisons. Tinsley Green is an area in the Borough of Crawley, one of seven local government districts in the English county of West Sussex. Originally a hamlet in the parish of Worth, it was absorbed by the New Town of Crawley in the 1940s and became part of the Pound Hill neighbourhood.
