Tinnahinch GAA
Tinnahinch GAA was a hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. The club was an amalgamation of Clonaslee–St Manman's and Rosenallis to play senior hurling under the name Tinnahinch. In 2006 Tinnahinch were beaten by Rathdowney–Errill in the final of the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, a third senior final defeat for the club. Tinnahinch played in three Laois Senior Hurling Championship Finals (2002 , 2003 and 2006), won the 2009 Division 3 Féile na nGael national hurling title and won U14 and U16 A hurling and football titles. Darren Rooney, a link with the club, played hurling and football for Laois. James Young is another link with the club who played senior hurling for Laois. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. County Laois ( ; gle, Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. Clonaslee–St Manman's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling and Gaelic football club in Clonaslee, County Laois, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club colours are green and white for gaelic football, football and red and white for hurling. History Clonaslee GAA club catered for football and hurling until 1974 when St Manman's Gaelic Football Club was founded and catered exclusively for football. St Manman's reached the 1977 Laois Junior Football Championships final, losing to Portlaoise GAA, Portlaoise. Clonaslee Hurling Club and St Manman's Football Club amalgamated in 2001. Rosenallis GAA
Rosenallis Gaelic Athletic Association club is a hurling and Gaelic football club in the village of Rosenallis in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club formerly amalgamated with the Clonaslee–St Manman's club to play senior hurling under the name Tinnahinch. Seamus Dooley, Declan Conroy and John Lennon are three of the club's most famous players, representing Laois at senior hurling level. Rosenallis has won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship three times (in 1989, 1999 and 2016). In 2012, Rosenallis GAA had a huge representation at county level. Rathdowney–Errill GAA
Rathdowney–Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and red. The club was created in 2005 by the complete amalgamation at all levels of hurling of neighbouring clubs Errill and Rathdowney. Both the Rathdowney and Errill Clubs remain as separate football clubs competing in the Laois Junior B Football Championship. History Prior to the foundation of the Errill GAA Club in 1928, players from Errill and surrounding areas played their hurling with Rathdowney. In the 1970s and 1980s, both Rathdowney and Errill joined forces at Minor and Under 21 level, competing in eight minor finals, including seven in a row from 1976 to 1982. Laois Senior Hurling Championship
The Laois Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Clough–Ballacolla GAA, Clough–Ballacolla (incl Ballygeehan) are the title holders (2022) defeating Camross GAA, Camross in the Final and completing the club's first three-in-a-row since doing a five-in-a-row in 1918. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Bob O'Keefe Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship. Darren Rooney
Darren Rooney is an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler from County Laois. His dual status makes him most unusual in the modern GAA. He currently plays for the Parnells club in Dublin. He usually plays at right half back or full back art senior level for the Laois county team and in 2003 was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946. James Young (hurler)
James Young is an Irish hurler from County Laois. He plays for the Clonaslee–St Manman's club and was a regular on the senior Laois county team, for whom he was regularly one of the highest scoring players in the country. In 2006, James received a nomination for an All-Star award. In 2007, he was nominated for the Vodafone GAA Hurling All Stars awards. In 2009, he announced his retirement from the sport.
