Tin Shui Wai Hospital
Tin Shui Wai Hospital () is a public hospital in Tin Shui Wai, Hong Kong. The 300-bed hospital is part of the New Territories West Cluster serving the population of Yuen Long and Tuen Mun districts, particularly those in the Tin Shui Wai New Town. It opened in 2017. History As the population of Tin Shui Wai continued to grow, the need for a hospital in the area became apparent. Hospital Authority had initially rejected the proposal of constructing a hospital in the area due to limited resources. This led to demonstrations on 25 November 2007, 14 February 2008, and 27 April 2008. In response to the request, Donald Tsang, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, announced a plan in his policy address to build a hospital in Tin Shui Wai and expected it to be completed by 2015. Hospital Authority
The Hospital Authority is a statutory body managing all the government hospitals and institutes in Hong Kong. It is under the governance of its board and is under the monitor of the Secretary for Food and Health of the Hong Kong Government. Its chairman is Henry Fan. History Before the establishment of the authority, all health and medical issues were under the management of the Medical and Health Department. In 1990, a new health administration system was introduced as part of the 1989 reforms. The establishment of the Authority served to rebuild state capacity amid the emergence of party politics in Hong Kong. Tin Shui Wai
Tin Shui Wai New Town is a satellite town in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong. Originally a ' fish pond area, it was developed in the 1980s as the second new town in Yuen Long District and the eighth in Hong Kong. It is due northwest of Central, the main business area in the territory, on land reclaimed from low-lying areas south of Deep Bay, next to historic Ping Shan. while the total projected population for when the town is fully built-out is about 306,000. New Territories
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory, and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Yuen Long District
Yuen Long District (formerly romanised as Un Long) is one of the districts of Hong Kong. Located in the northwest of the New Territories, it had a population of 662,000 in 2021 Geography Yuen Long District contains the largest alluvial plain in Hong Kong, the Yuen Long-Kam Tin plain. Tuen Mun District is one of the 18 administrative districts of Hong Kong. It is the westernmost continental district of Hong Kong. It had a population of 487,546 in 2011. Sir Donald Tsang Yam-kuen (; born 7 October 1944) is a former Hong Kong civil servant who served as the second Chief Executive of Hong Kong from 2005 to 2012. Tsang joined the colonial civil service as an Executive Officer in 1967, occupying various positions in local administration, finance and trade before he was appointed Financial Secretary of Hong Kong in 1995, becoming the first ethnic Chinese to hold the position under British administration. He continued to serve in the Hong Kong SAR government after 1997 and gained his reputation internationally for his intervention in Hong Kong's stock market in defending the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar during the 1997 financial crisis.
