Tin Hau Temple Road
Tin Hau Temple Road () is a road starting in Causeway Bay near Tin Hau MTR station with a large portion being in the North Point Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. Starting from King's Road on the west, the road then slopes up, before being mostly flat, until it ends in a dead end after a roundabout. A number of intersections connect Tin Hau Temple Road to other roads, such as Fortress Hill Road, Cloud View Road and Pak Fuk Road. Belilios Public School
Belilios Public School (, abbreviated as BPS) is the first government school for girls in Hong Kong, founded in 1890. It was also the first bilingual school in Hong Kong. It is in Tin Hau. History In 1890, the Hong Kong Government set up the Central School for Girls at Old Bailey Street as the counterpart to the Central School (Queen's College, Hong Kong). Mr. Emanual R. Belilios, a Jewish philanthropist donated HK$ 25 000 for a new building for the Central School for Girls in 1893, at the old site of Central School where a three-storeyed building was erected between Hollywood Road and Gough Street. The school was renamed ''Belilios Public School'' in honour of Mr. Belilios. In 1946 after the Second World War, BPS moved to Hospital Road. Tin Hau () is a station on the of the Hong Kong MTR rapid transit system. Location Like all other Island line stations, Tin Hau is located along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. Tin Hau Temple, Causeway Bay
The Tin Hau Temple in Causeway Bay is one of the Tin Hau temples in Hong Kong. It is located at 10 Tin Hau Temple Road, Causeway Bay, east of Victoria Park, in Eastern District, on Hong Kong Island. The temple has given its name to the MTR station serving it (Island line), and consequently the neighboring area of Tin Hau. History The original temple dates back to 1747 (the date of the temple bell) and was built by members of the Tai family, a family of Hakkas from Guangdong, who first settled in Kowloon. Legend has it, the family used to travel by boat to Causeway Bay to gather grass and discovered an incense burner found floating miraculously on the sea. This incident gave rise to one of the pre-colonial names for Hong Kong Island, ''Hung Heung Lo'' (Red Incense-burner island).
