Time's Arrow (short Story)
"Time's Arrow" is a science fiction short story by British writer Arthur C. Clarke, first published in 1950 in the first issue of the magazine '' Science Fantasy''. The story revolves about the unintended consequences of using time travel to study dinosaurs. The story was included in the 2005 anthology ''The Best Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century''. The title matches Sir Arthur Eddington's second law of thermodynamics. Plot The story follows a group of scientists, two geologists (Barton and Davis) and a palaeontologist (Fowler), who are excavating dinosaur footprints. In information theory and statistics, negentropy is used as a measure of distance to normality. The concept and phrase "negative entropy" was introduced by Erwin Schrödinger in his 1944 popular-science book ''What is Life?'' Later, Léon Brillouin shortened the phrase to ''negentropy''. Early career In 1947, Dikty joined Shasta Publishers as managing editor. With E. F. Jack McDevitt (born April 14, 1935) is an American science fiction author whose novels frequently deal with attempts to make contact with alien races, and with archaeology or xenoarchaeology. A fossil trackway is a sequence of fossil tracks left by a single organism. ''Science Fantasy'', which also appeared under the titles ''Impulse'' and ''SF Impulse'', was a British fantasy and science fiction magazine, launched in 1950 by Nova Publications as a companion to Nova's ''New Worlds''. Walter Gillings was editor for the first two issues, and was then replaced by John Carnell, the editor of ''New Worlds'', as a cost-saving measure.
