Tigrane (Vivaldi)
''La Virtù trionfante dell'amore e dell'odio overo Il Tigrane'' (RV 740) is a 1724 opera for the carnival season in Rome. It was a joint composition by Benedetto Micheli (Act I), Vivaldi (Act II) and Nicola Romaldi (Act III). The libretto was originally thought to based on that by Francesco Silvani already used in Venice in 1691, but has been identified as a libretto by Pietro Andrea Bernardoni used in Vienna in 1710. Vivaldi
Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was an Italian composer, virtuoso violinist and impresario of Baroque music. Regarded as one of the greatest Baroque composers, Vivaldi's influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe, giving origin to many imitators and admirers. He pioneered many developments in orchestration, violin technique and programatic music. He consolidated the emerging concerto form into a widely accepted and followed idiom, which was paramount in the development of Johann Sebastian Bach's instrumental music. Vivaldi composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other musical instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than fifty operas. Reinhard Strohm
Professor Reinhard Strohm FBA (born 4 August 1942, Munich) is a German musicologist based largely in the United Kingdom, with an interest in 14th to 18th-century music. Strohm studied Musicology, Medieval Latin, and Romance Literatures, at the University of Munich, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, and the Technical University of Berlin during 1961–1969. He earned his Ph.D. degree at TU Berlin in 1971, with Carl Dahlhaus, producing a dissertation titled ''“Italienische Opernarien des frühen Settecento (1720–1730)''. Strohm taught at King's College London during 1975–1983 and 1990–1996 as a lecturer, then a reader, and finally a professor. Mónika González is an opera singer born in Italy. Gonzalez graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Hungary as choir conductor, pianist, and opera singer. Pál Németh
Pál Németh (20 June 1937 – 9 January 2009) was a Hungarian sportsperson and later coach in hammer throwing. Born in Szentkirály, he was the son of athletics coach László Németh. During his own sporting career, Pál Németh played volleyball and basketball, both in the highest Hungarian league. He took up hammer throwing at the age of 23, and opened his own training centre in 1964. He trained his own son Zsolt Németh, Tibor Gécsek, Krisztián Pars and Adrián Annus, among others. He was decorated several times, including the 1998 Coach of the Year award. He was also an exhibited painter. He died on 9 January 2009 from heart failure. An annual hammer throwing meeting was established in his honour that same year – the Pál Németh Memorial. Philippe Jaroussky (born 13 February 1978) is a French countertenor. He began his musical career with the violin, winning an award at the Versailles conservatory, and then took up the piano before turning to singing. Unusually for a countertenor, Jaroussky performs entirely in falsetto register. He has said that his natural singing voice is in the baritone range. Early career Jaroussky was born in Maisons-Laffitte. His great-grandfather was a Russian émigré who fled from the Bolshevik Revolution. Jean-Christophe Spinosi (born 2 September 1964) is a French conductor and violinist, the founder of French orchestra Ensemble Matheus. Life and career In 1991 he created the Ensemble Matheus in Brest, an orchestra which accompanies him throughout the world.
