Tianma Tea House
The Tianma Tea House is a former tea house in Datong District, Taipei, Datong District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is the site where an enforcement officer from the Monopoly Bureau, Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau of the Taiwan Provincial Government accidentally shot a civilian on 27 February 1947. The incident led to the island-wide anti-government uprising by the Taiwanese people called the February 28 Incident and the implementation of White Terror (Taiwan), White Terror in Taiwan from 1949 to 1987. The tea house building has long been on the route of the annual march to commemorate the February 28 Incident in Taipei by government officials or civilians. Datong District, Taipei
Datong District or Tatung is a district of Taipei City, Taiwan. It is located between the Taipei Metro Red Line and eastern shore of the Tamsui River, and between Civic Boulevard and the Sun Yat-sen Freeway. The southern part of this area used to be the site of Twatutia, one of the first settlements in what is now Taipei and for a time the area's commercial center. Taipei's commercial center has since shifted south east to Zhongzheng, Da'an and Xinyi, and Datong is far less important economically. Monopoly Bureau
The Monopoly Bureau Building is a Renaissance-style red brick building located in Nan Chang Street, Taipei City, Taiwan. It is in the Zhongzheng District, near Aiguo West Road, Park Road and Nanchang intersection ring, and Taipei's city south gate. It is also located nearby the Republic of China Ministry of Finance and the President of the Republic of China's Official Residence. The building was built in 1913 during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. The building was designed by the architect and constructed in 1913 by the Kobe Group. The six-story tower topped with a spire is the most unusual feature of the building. In addition to a six-story tower, the building is also decorated with a copper roof. Taiwan Provincial Government
The Taiwan Provincial Government was the government that governed Taiwan Province of the Republic of China. Its functions have been transferred to the National Development Council and other ministries of the Executive Yuan. History At the end of World War II, Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945. White Terror (Taiwan)
The White Terror () was the political repression of Taiwanese civilians under the Kuomintang (KMT)-ruled government. The period of White Terror is generally considered to have begun when martial law was declared in Taiwan on 19 May 1949, which was enabled by the 1948 Temporary Provisions against the Communist Rebellion, and ended on 21 September 1992 with the repeal of Article 100 of the Criminal Code, allowing for the prosecution of "anti-state" activities. The Temporary Provisions were repealed a year earlier on 22 April 1991 and martial law was lifted on 15 July 1987. The period of White Terror generally does not include the 228 Incident of 1947, in which the KMT killed at least 18,000 Taiwanese civilians in response to a popular uprising, and also summarily executed many local political and intellectual elites. Zhongshan (, formerly transliterated as Chungshan Station until 2003) is a metro station in Taipei, Taiwan served by Taipei Metro. It is a transfer station between the Tamsui–Xinyi and s. The station opened on 28 March 1997 for traffic on the Tamsui-Xinyi line, and Songshan-Xindian line services opened on 15 November 2014.
