Thuwal ( ar, ثُوَل) is a Hejazi village belonging to the governorate of Jeddah in the Makkah Province of Saudi Arabia, north of Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea. Overview Thuwal had long been a fishing center until the Royal Saudi Navy reconstructed the village. Thuwal hosts the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), which officially opened in September 2009. The town is also experiencing an increase in business due to its proximity to the King Abdullah Economic City. Thuwal attracts seafood lovers to its fish restaurants. Founded in 2009, the university provides research and graduate training programs in English as the official language of instruction. KAUST is the first mixed-gender university campus in Saudi Arabia. King Abdullah Economic City
King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC, ; ar, مدينة الملك عبد الله الاقتصادية) is a megaproject announced in 2005 by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the former king of Saudi Arabia. It was one of six megaprojects that were announced in 2005 and is the only one that was launched. By 2018, ''The Financial Times'' wrote that the city had not attracted investment or become a hub for logistics and manufacturing, contrary to the grand plans behind the project. By 2018, the city had a population of 7,000. Dahaban
Dahban or Dahaban ( ar, ذهبان) is an ancient village on the coast of Saudi Arabia (Red Sea). It is in Makkah Province, a few kilometers north of Jeddah. For a long time, Dahban was a fishing center until Durrat Al-Arus opened in 1996, which made it also a tourist village. Dahaban lies on the main highway running along the west coast of Saudi Arabia between Jeddah and Rabigh. Dahaban has now turned into a picnic spot for families to visit fresh fish restaurants and in 2015, the first marine park was inaugurated, which attracted visitors.
