Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. Their Underage Section is called ''Dúrlas Og'' and as they go past Minor they become Thurles Sarrsfield History On 19 October 2009, Sarsfields captured their 30th Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, defeating neighbours Drom ’n Inch at Semple Stadium by 0-14 to 0-5. The Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann) or Tipperary GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Tipperary and the Tipperary county teams. Ronan Maher (hurler)
Ronan Maher (born 9 October 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays for Tipperary Senior Championship club Thurles Sarsfields and at inter-county level alongside his brother Pádraic with the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a left wing-back. Playing career Thurles CBS Maher first came to prominence as a hurler with Thurles CBS. Pádraic Maher
Pádraic Maher (born 9 February 1989) is an Irish former Hurling, hurler who previously played for Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary Senior Championship club Thurles Sarsfields GAA, Thurles Sarsfields and at inter-county level with the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a centre-back. Playing career Thurles CBS Maher first came to prominence as a hurler with Thurles CBS. Tony Wall
Anthony "Tony" Wall (born 9 May 1934) is an Irish former hurler and manager who played as a centre-back at senior level for the Tipperary county team. Wall joined the team during the 1953–54 National League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1967 championship. During that time he won five All-Ireland medals, six Munster medals and six National Hurling League medals. Wall captained the team to the All-Ireland title in 1958. At club level Wall was a ten-time county club championship medalist with Thurles Sarsfields. Playing career Colleges Wall first experienced hurling success when he was a student at Thurles CBS. Ger "Redser" O'Grady (born 1979 in Thurles, County Tipperary) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Thurles Sarsfields and is a former member of the Tipperary senior inter-county team. Ger O'Grady was born in Thurles, County Tipperary in 1979. John Maher (Tipperary Hurler)
John Maher (26 June 1908 – 11 July 1990) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played for Thurles Sarsfields, captaining the club on a number of occasions, and was the captain of the Tipperary senior hurling team that won the 1945 All-Ireland Championship. Widely regarded as one of the Thurles Sarsfields club's all-time greats, Maher's career spanned three decades. During that time he won nine Tipperary Senior Championship medals, including two as club captain in 1944 and 1945. Maher made his first appearance for the Tipperary senior hurling team as the youngest member of their 1930 All-Ireland Championship-winning team. Tommy Doyle (Tipperary Hurler)
Thomas Doyle (8 February 1915 – 5 February 1988) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-back for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Doyle first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team, before later joining the junior side. He made his senior debut in the 1936–37 National League. Doyle went on to enjoy a seventeen-year inter-county career, and won five All-Ireland medals, six Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. Doyle represented the Munster inter-provincial team at various times, winning three Railway Cup medals on the field of play. At club level he won seven championship medals with Thurles Sarsfields. Jimmy Doyle
James Doyle (20 March 1939 – 22 June 2015) was an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Doyle first played competitive hurling whilst at school in Thurles CBS. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fourteen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team. He made his senior debut in the 1957–58 National League. Doyle went on to play a key part for Tipperary during a hugely successful era for the team, and won six All-Ireland medals, nine Munster medals and seven National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions, Doyle also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1962 and 1965. Lar Corbett
Laurence Corbett (born 16 March 1981) is an Irish former hurler who played for Tipperary Championship club Thurles Sarsfields. He played for the Tipperary senior hurling team for 15 years, during which time he usually lined out as a left corner-forward. Noted for his deadly accuracy in front of goal, Corbett is regarded as one of Tipperary's all-time greatest forwards. Corbett began his hurling career at club level with Thurles Sarsfields. Mickey Byrne
Michael Byrne (10 September 1923 – 16 October 2016), better known as "the Rattler" Byrne, was an Irish hurler whose league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team spanned fifteen years from 1945 to 1960. Born in Dublin, Byrne first played competitive hurling after his family moved to Thurles, County Tipperary. His skills were developed at Thurles CBS, with Byrne winning a Dean Ryan Cup medal in 1939. His performances at colleges level brought him to the attention of the Thurles Sarsfields selectors and he simultaneously joined the club's minor team, winning a county minor championship medal in 1940. Tipperary Senior Hurling Team
The Tipperary county hurling team represents Tipperary in hurling and is governed by Tipperary GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
