''Three of a Kind'' is an album by Dutch boogie-woogie and jazz pianist Rob Agerbeek. Content The album was recorded in May 1998 at The Farmsound Studio in Heelsum in the Netherlands and released in 1998 on the Dutch record label Oldie Blues (OLCD 7112). Of the eighteen songs on this CD six were written bij Agerbeek. "Song for Martin" was dedicated to Martin van Olderen, the producer for this album. Robbert Arris Jules "Rob" Agerbeek (born 28 September 1937 in Batavia ( Jakarta)) is an Indo Dutch boogie-woogie and jazz pianist and winner of several jazz concourses in the Netherlands in the late 1950s. He is regarded as one of Europe's finest jazz pianists, covering the full spectrum of jazz styles from his early days of Boogie-woogie to Chicago traditional Jazz, swing and contemporary jazz. Early life and career In 1954 Rob Agerbeek and his family arrived in the Netherlands. He started playing the piano at the age of 17 or 18. Except for one piano lesson from his mother he is completely self-taught; he learned the piano by listening to records of Albert Ammons, Johnny Maddox, Winifred Atwell, Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis. In the first years of his career Agerbeek is mainly into Boogie-woogie and later in his career he expands his playing styles with bebop, hardbop and dixieland. Oldie Blues was a Dutch record label founded and owned by Martin van Olderen. "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free" is a jazz song written by Billy Taylor. Taylor's original version (as "I Wish I Knew") was recorded on November 12, 1963, and released on his ''Right Here, Right Now!'' album (Capitol ST-2039) the following year. His 1967 live version, from the album of the same name, was later used as the theme music for the '' Film...'' review programme series on BBC Television. Taylor said: "I wrote this song, perhaps my best-known composition, for my daughter Kim. This is one of the best renditions I’ve done because it is very spiritual." "Roll 'Em Pete" is a blues song, originally recorded in December 1938 by Big Joe Turner and pianist Pete Johnson. The recording is regarded as one of the most important precursors of what later became known as rock and roll. "Roll 'Em Pete" was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2018, as one of the five new entrants in the "Classic of Blues Recording (Song)" category. Original recording Johnson was a boogie-woogie pianist in Kansas City, who in the early 1930s had developed a partnership with Turner, who was working at the time as a club bartender.
