Three Letter Rule
In English spelling, the three-letter rule, or short-word rule, is the observation that one- and two-letter words tend to be function words such as ''I'', ''at'', ''he'', ''if'', ''of'', ''or'', etc. As a consequence of the rule, "content words" tend to have at least three letters. In particular, content words containing fewer than three phonemes may be augmented with letters which are phonetically redundant, such as ''ebb'', ''add'', ''egg'', ''inn'', ''bee'', ''awe'', ''buy'', ''owe'', etc. Vivian Cook says of the rule, "People who are told about it are often surprised that they were previously unaware of something so obvious." English Spelling
English orthography is the writing system used to represent spoken English, allowing readers to connect the graphemes to sound and to meaning. It includes English's norms of spelling, hyphenation, capitalisation, word breaks, emphasis, and punctuation. Like the orthography of most world languages, English orthography has a broad degree of standardisation. Sarah Ann Glover
Sarah Anna Glover (13 November 1786 – 20 October 1867) was an English music educator who invented the Norwich sol-fa system. Her Sol-fa system was based on the ancient gamut; but she omitted the constant recital of the alphabetical names of each note and the arbitrary syllable indicating key relationship, and also the recital of two or more such syllables when the same note was common to as many keys (e.g. C, Fa, Ut, meaning that C is the subdominant of G and the tonic of C). The notes were represented by the initials of the seven syllables, C, D, E, F, S, L, T; still in use today as their names. Early life Glover was born in The Close, Norwich. A loanword (also loan word or loan-word) is a word at least partly assimilated from one language (the donor language) into another language. Auxiliary Verb
An auxiliary verb (abbreviated ) is a verb that adds functional or grammatical meaning to the clause in which it occurs, so as to express tense, aspect, modality, voice, emphasis, etc. Auxiliary verbs usually accompany an infinitive verb or a participle, which respectively provide the main semantic content of the clause.
