Three Faces East (1926 Film)
''Three Faces East'' is a 1926 American silent drama film directed by Rupert Julian and starring Jetta Goudal and Clive Brook. It is based on a popular 1918 Broadway play by Anthony Paul Kelly about spies during World War I. It was remade under same title as a sound film in 1930, and in 1940 under the title ''British Intelligence'' starring Boris Karloff. The story's action takes place in France and Great Britain. Plot As described in a film magazine review, while a German prisoner, British aviator Frank Bennett is nursed back to health by Fraulein Marks, who is really Helen Hawtree of the British Intelligence Service. She reaches England and is sent to the Bennett house to watch for Bolke, a German spy, who turns up as the servant Valdar. Helen falls in love with him but remains true to her country. Rupert Julian
Rupert Julian (born Thomas Percival Hayes; 25 January 1879 – 27 December 1943) was a New Zealand cinema actor, director, writer and producer. During his career, Julian directed 60 films and acted in over 90 films. He is best remembered for directing Lon Chaney, Sr., Lon Chaney in The Phantom of the Opera (1925 film), ''The Phantom of the Opera'' (1925). He also directed ''The Cat Creeps (1930 film), The Cat Creeps'' (1930), a sound remake of ''The Cat and the Canary (1927 film), The Cat and the Canary'' (1927), which is now considered a lost film, with only two minutes of footage remaining in the 1932 Universal comedy short film ''Boo! ''British Intelligence'' is a 1940 spy film set in World War I. It was directed by Terry O. Morse and stars Boris Karloff and Margaret Lindsay. The film, also known as ''Enemy Agent'', was released in the United States in January 1940. The Warner Bros. B picture was based on a 1918 play ''Three Faces East'' written by Anthony Paul Kelly and produced on the stage by George M. Cohan. Clarence Burton
Clarence Forrest Burton (May 10, 1882 – December 2, 1933) was an American silent film actor. Biography Burton was born in Fort Lyon, in Benton County, Missouri and started in show business at the age of 5, playing stock and musical comedy in road productions. He was signed into films in late 1912 and starred in 132 films between 1913 and 1932. By late 1920, Burton had become heavy enough to be considered unsuited for his typical villainous roles in films. A trainer supervised a program of exercise and diet until Burton had lost enough weight to be cast in the Paramount film ''The Jacklins''. He died of a heart attack in 1933 at the age of 51 in Hollywood, California. His interment was located at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, but was removed on September 6, 1950. Edythe Chapman (October 8, 1863 – October 15, 1948) was an American stage and silent film actress. Career Born in Rochester, New York, Chapman began her stage career as early as 1898 when she appeared in New York City in ''The Charity Ball''. She performed at the Shubert Theater in Brooklyn in a production of ''The Light Eternal'' in 1907. The play was a romantic drama of Imperial Rome which was supported by a cast of approximately 100 people. Chapman played maternal roles in numerous silent motion pictures and became known in the 1920s as ''Hollywood's Mother''. She played ''Ma Jones'' in the film version of '' Lightnin''' (1925), a screen production which featured Will Rogers. Edythe was ''Grandmother Janeway'' in ''Man Crazy'' (1927).
