The 1000 Islands Tower is a concrete observation tower, on Hill Island, in Ontario, about 620 meters from the border of New York State. Built in 1965, the tower provides panoramic views over the Thousand Islands of both countries, from a height of above the St. Lawrence River. It is generally open from May to October. An observation tower is a structure used to view events from a long distance and to create a full 360 degree range of vision to conduct long distance observations. Hill Island (Ontario)
Hill Island is an island in the Thousand Islands archipelago on the St. Lawrence River between Ontario, Canada and the U.S. state of New York. It is located on the Canadian side of the Canada–US border and separated from Wellesley Island on the U.S. side by the International Rift. Hill Island is southwest of Rockport and southeast of Lansdowne and Ivy Lea on the Canadian mainland. Hill Island is part of the Lansdowne postal area (postal code K0E 1L0), located in the township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario. The Thousand Islands (french: Mille-Îles) constitute a North American archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario and the U.S. islands in the state of New York. The islands range in size from over to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, or uninhabited outcroppings of rocks.
