Thorpe Hesley F.C. were an English football club based in Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, West Riding of Yorkshire. History Thorpe Hesley were formed at the outset of the 20th century, entering the Hatchard League for the first time in 1902. Two years later they made their FA Cup debut, reaching the 2nd qualifying round, an achievement they equaled in 1906 (being disqualified after a replay with Hoyland Town). The club disbanded in 1911. The Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League is an English football league that was founded in 1983 by the merger of the former Sheffield Association League and Hatchard League. The league has three divisions – the Premier Division (which stands at level 11 of the English football league system), Division One and Division Two. Bert Cook (footballer)
Herbert Cook (1888 – after 1919) was an English footballer who played a handful of games in the Football League for Sheffield United. He also had spells at a number of other local teams including Doncaster Rovers and Chesterfield. Career Cook signed for Sheffield United in 1908 but failed to make a first team appearance until 1910. He was a part-time player who worked at local firm Mappin & Webb and turned down the offer of a full-time contract from the club. Instead he moved to Doncaster Rovers on part-time terms, following which he moved on to a number of local clubs. George Stacey (footballer)
George William Stacey (April 1881 – 1972) was an English footballer who played at left back for several English football clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Manchester United. Born in Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, Stacey began his career with Thorpe Hesley F.C. before signing for Sheffield Wednesday in May 1902. He then joined Barnsley in August 1905, via a short spell with Thornhill United. In April 1907, he was sold to Manchester United for a fee of £200. Stacey made his Manchester United debut on 12 October 1907, playing at left back in a 6–1 away win over Newcastle United. That season, he made 18 league appearances and scored one goal as United won the First Division title by nine points over Aston Villa - the first major trophy in Manchester United's history. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
