Thornhurst Township, Pennsylvania
Thornhurst Township is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,012 at the 2020 census. The area is a part of the Pocono Mountains region. The township was established in 1878 as Lehigh Township, so named for the Lehigh River. In 1996, to eliminate confusion between this and the township of the same name in Wayne County, the township changed its name to Thornhurst, the name of a community within the southern portion of the township. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 23.2 square miles (60.2 km), of which 23.0 square miles (59.6 km) is land and 0.2 square mile (0.6 km) (1.03%) is water. It is located in the Pocono Mountains. 20 miles from Wilkes-Barre, 25 miles from Scranton and 30 miles from Stroudsburg.
