Thorneside is a coastal urban locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the , Thorneside had a population of 3,761 people. Geography The locality is bounded to the north-east by Waterloo Bay (), a part of Moreton Bay. It is bounded to the west by Tingalpa Creek. Mooroondu Point is the northernmost part of the locality at the mouth of the creek, jutting into the bay () The Cleveland railway line enters the locality from the west ( Ransome) and exits to the south-east (Birkdale) with the locality served by Thorneside railway station (). Residential development in the suburb is predominately housing estates built around Thorneside Road and Mooroondu Road. History The locality is named after the Thorneside railway station, originally named Thorne's siding after William Thorne who bought a lot of land around Thorneside when it was originally subdivided in 1913. Thorneside Railway Station
Thorneside railway station is located on the Cleveland line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the suburb of Thorneside in Redland City. History In 1889, the Cleveland line was extended from Manly to the original Cleveland station. Thorneside station opened in 1889 as Waterloo. It was closed in 1890 and reopened in 1909 as Ransome's railway siding. In 1912, the station closed again when Ransome's railway siding was relocated over Tingalpa Creek. In 1917, the station reopened under the current name of Thorneside. On 1 November 1960, the station closed when the line was truncated to Lota. The station reopened on 25 September 1982 and served as an interim terminus as the line was being rebuilt to Cleveland. Adjacent to the station lies a turning angle. Geography Birkdale stretches from Tingalpa Creek in the west, the border with Brisbane City, to Wellington Point in the east. Cleveland Railway Line
The Cleveland railway line is a suburban railway line extending east-southeast from Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Queensland Rail City network. History Following the opening of the Wooloongabba Branch railway line from Corinda to Stanley Street in South Brisbane in 1884, calls were made for extending the line to Cleveland to serve the developing farming area. A line was surveyed, and took an indirect route to avoid hilly country and to serve Fort Lytton, a gun emplacement at the south entrance to the Brisbane River, then the major defence installation for the city. The line was opened to Manly in 1888 and extended to the first Cleveland station in 1889. Ransome is an outer coastal suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Ransome had a population of 405 people. Geography Ransome is by road east of the Brisbane CBD. It is on the boundary with the City of Redland. Ransome is bounded to the north by Moreton Bay, to the east by Tingalpa Creek, to the south by Chadwell Street and to the west loosely by Lota Creek. Tingalpa Creek
Tingalpa Creek is a creek in South East Queensland. It flows along Brisbane's south east boundary with Redland City Council. On early maps the creek was called both Tunim Creek and Tangulba Creek. The waterway serves as important wildlife corridor on the city's fringe. The creek also provides limited kayaking and fishing opportunities. The creek's water catchment area covers 150 km². Tingalpa Creek has its headwaters in Venman Bushland National Park at Mount Cotton, Queensland, Mount Cotton and the Brisbane Koala Park in Burbank, Queensland, Burbank. Lota is an eastern outer coastal suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Lota had a population of 3,256 people. Geography Lota is by road east of the Brisbane CBD.
