Thomas T. Dahl
Thomas Tellevik Dahl (born 7 September 1973) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar), music educator and composer, known from a series recordings, among others within bands like Krøyt and Dingobats. Career Dahl is educated at the "Skeisvang videregående skole"(Skeisvang high school) in Haugesund (1989–92), "Sund folkehøgskole" in Inderøy (1992–93) and on the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium (1993–98). Dahl has released several albums and received Spellemannprisen 1999 with Krøyt (1993–2005), joined the band Dingobats (1995–2005), releasing three albums and within John Pål Inderberg's twelve-tone Quartet (1995–96), and Erlend Skomsvoll's "Skomsork" (1996–02). He has written commissioned works for Nattjazz 2004 ( Norsk Hydro), for "Finsejazz" 2005, and with Per Jørgensen and Frank Jakobsen, composed "Tomlane opp" (2006). Vossajazz
Vossajazz or Vossa Jazz (established 19 December 1973) is an international jazz festival in Voss, Norway, which takes place annually during the week before Easter, and which also includes concerts throughout the year. The festival has been led by Trude Storheim since August 2007. History The first festival in 1974 was held the same weekend as the World Cup in Alpine skiing at Voss. The idea was that ski and jazz fit together. Since 1986 the festival has always taken place during the palm weekend. From 2007, the festival director has been Trude Storheim. Njål Ølnes
Njål Ølnes (born 24 September 1965 in Sogndal, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (tenor saxophone), composer and jazz educator currently residing in Nesodden. Career Ølnes is a graduate of the Jazz program at the Trondheim Musikkonsevatorium (1988–92), and was for many years music teacher at Sund Folkehøgskole, where he has been a major driving force behind the vital jazz studies. Øyvind Skarbø
Øyvind Skarbø (born 9 April 1982 in Norway) is a Norwegian drummer and composer, raised in Stranda, and now residing in Bergen. Biography Skarbø studied under the guidance of Terje Isungset at Griegakademiet, and has also carried out studies in Norwegian, Cuban and Nigerian traditional music. He is a driving force on the Norwegian improvisation music scene, both as a member and organizer of a number of bands. Alexi Tuomarila (born 27 February 1974) is a Finnish jazz pianist and composer. Biography Born in Pori, Finland, Alexi Tuomarila started studying classical piano at the age of six at the Espoo Music Academy, Finland. As a teenager he was enthusiastic about rock and grunge music before digging deeper into jazz through his father's record collection. In 1993 Tuomarila was accepted to Oulunkylä pop/jazz Conservatory in Helsinki, Finland, where he studied for a year. He continued his studies under Diederik Wissels and Nathalie Loriers at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and earned his Master of Music degree in 1999. During his studies he formed his Quartet with Nicolas Kummert, Christophe Devisscher, and Teun Verbruggen. Tore Brunborg
Tore Brunborg (born 20 May 1960) is a Norwegian jazz musician and composer who plays saxophone. He was born in Trondheim but grew up in Voss where a jazz environment was flowering. Known from numerous appearances with international greats including Bugge Wesseltoft, Håvard Wiik, Audun Kleive, Anders Jormin, Diederik Wissels, Arild Andersen, Pat Metheny, Per Jørgensen, Geir Lysne, Misha Alperin, Bjørn Alterhaug, Jan Gunnar Hoff, Jarle Vespestad, Jon Christensen, Jon Balke, Nils Petter Molvær, Vigleik Storaas, Bo Stief, and Billy Cobham. Olavi Louhivuori
Olavi Louhivuori (born 13 July 1981 in Jyväskylä, Finland) is a Finnish jazz drummer and composer, the leader of his own ensemble Oddarrang, and also performer within several other bands. He is married to the singer Emma Salokoski. Career Louhivuori was raised in a musical family. His father is professor at the Department of Music University of Jyväskylä and his mother, a violinist and music educator. Each of the five children in his family was taught to play instruments. Louhivuori started to play violin at four, and changed to cello and piano when eight. When he was nine years of age he changed to drums and founded his first band together with classmate Joona Toivanen. While at Cygnaeus high school (1997), he played with the Joona Toivanen Trio, as well as joining gigs at local jam sessions. Håkon Mjåset Johansen (born 1 August 1975 in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz drummer and composer, known from playing with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra featuring Chick Corea at Moldejazz 2000, cooperations with Bugge Wesseltoft's New Conceptions of Jazz, Ole Morten Vågan's Motif, Siri Gjære's Cricket Club and the Ola Kvernberg Trio.
