Thomas Ross (architect)
David MacGibbon (2 April 1831 – 20 February 1902) and Thomas Ross (10 November 1839 – 4 December 1930) were Scottish architects. Their practice, MacGibbon and Ross was established in 1872 and continued until 1914. They are best known today for their comprehensive published surveys of Scotland's architectural heritage. David MacGibbon David MacGibbon LLD was born in Edinburgh, into a family of builders, and was educated at the Royal High School. He attended the University of Edinburgh from 1846–49, but did not graduate. In 1851 he joined the London office of architect William Burn, and made study tours to Europe during the 1850s. From 1856 he went into practice with his father Charles, drawing details for houses. By 1858 he had opened his own office in Edinburgh, later becoming architect to the Merchant Company of Edinburgh, involving work to the city's schools. Tommy Ross (footballer)
Thomas Ross (27 February 1946 – 18 May 2017) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as an inside forward in the Football League for Peterborough United and York City, in the Highland League for Ross County and in non-League football for Wigan Athletic and Rossendale United. He holds the '' Guinness World Record'' for the fastest time to score a hat-trick. Ross joined Ross County in 1961, at the age of 15, and scored his first goal for the club in his debut season. During the 1964–65 season, he scored 44 goals, including a record-breaking hat-trick against Nairn County on 28 November 1964, where he scored three goals within a 90-second period. Tom Ross (born January 17, 1954) is an American former professional ice hockey centre. Early life Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to turning professional, he played four years (1972–76) of NCAA hockey with Michigan State University. He is the all-time leader in career points at the Division I level with 324 points in 115 games played. Career As a professional, Ross played 216 games in the IHL with the Port Huron Flags (1976–77) and the Kalamazoo Wings (1977–80). Thomas Ross is an American retired ice hockey defenseman and marine who was a two-time All-American for Boston University. Early life Ross was born in West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. College hockey He was varsity defenseman for Boston University during the program's renaissance in the mid-1960s. A part of Jack Kelley's first recruiting class for BU, Ross helped the Terriers prevent nearly 30 additional goals against than the previous season. The team had a breakout year in 1965 and Ross led BU to its best season in 17 years, compiling a 25–6 record and winning their first conference title. Ross placed on both the All-American and First Team All-ECAC rosters and was named as the ECAC Most Outstanding Defenseman. Thomas Couland Ross (14 February 1872 – 2 January 1947) was an Irish cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. He made his debut for Ireland in July 1894 against South Africa, and went on to play for Ireland on 20 occasions. His last match was against Scotland in July 1910. Tom Ross (born 1981) is a British Labour politician and leader of Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council in Greater Manchester. As leader he is also a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and is the combined authority's portfolio lead for the Green City-Region. Prior to becoming leader, he was the council's executive member for finance and governance and was Mayor of Trafford, a ceremonial position, during the 2018–2019 municipal year. First elected to the council in 2008, Ross is the councillor for Stretford and Humphrey Park. He was elected as council leader on 4 January 2023, following his predecessor Andrew Western's election as Member of Parliament for Stretford and Urmston. Thomas Ross (December 1, 1806 – July 7, 1865) was an American politician and lawyer who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1849 to 1853, representing the 6th congressional district of Pennsylvania as a Democrat in the 31st United States Congress and the 32nd United States Congress. Early life and education Ross was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1806. His father, John Ross, served in the United States House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party, representing Pennsylvania's 2nd congressional district from 1809 to 1811 and Pennsylvania's 6th congressional district from 1815 to 1818. Ross attended schools in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Princeton College in 1823 and studied law. Career Ross was admitted to the bar in 1829; he commenced practice in Doylestown. Thomas Ross of Nether Pitkerrie, was born about 1614. He was the son of George Ross of Nether Pitkerrie. He continued in Kincardine after the establishment of prelacy and owes his leaving to a meeting with John M'Gilligan. On the roll of ministers ejected after the Restoration the name of Ross appears amongst the “outed” in the Presbytery of Dingwall. Along with some other recusant Presbyterians, he took a warm interest in field preaching until the summer of 1675, when he was arrested under a warrant, issued to the Earl of Moray, commanding him “to execute the laws against the keepers of conventicles in the county of Moray and neighbouring places.” Wodrow relates, (perhaps mistakenly and perhaps misleading Crighton), that after undergoing terms of imprisonment at Nairn and Inverness, Ross made his acquaintance with the dungeons of the Bass Rock.
