Thomas Richardson, 2nd Lord Cramond
Thomas Richardson, 2nd Lord Cramond (19 June 162716 May 1674) of Honingham Hall, Norfolk was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1660 to 1674. Richardson was the son of Sir Thomas Richardson and his wife Elizabeth Hewitt daughter of Sir William Hewitt, of Pishiobury, Hertfordshire. He was a grandson of Thomas Richardson (judge), Thomas Richardson who was a judge and speaker of the House of Commons. His grandfather's second wife Elizabeth Richardson, 1st Lady Cramond was given the title Lord Cramond which was to go to her stepson. Richardson succeeded to the peerage on the death of Lady Cramond in April 1651 as his father died on 12 March 1645. In 1660, Richardson was elected Member of Parliament for Norfolk (UK Parliament constituency), Norfolk in the Convention Parliament (1660), Convention Parliament. Thomas Richardson (1771–1853) was a shareholder and director of the Stockton & Darlington Railway, a partner in Robert Stephenson & Co. and a founding member of the Owners of the Middlesbrough Estate. Background Thomas Richardson, a bill broker and Quaker from Stamford Hill, London, was the cousin of Edward Pease. Pease proposed the Stockton & Darlington Railway (S&DR) in 1818, and Richardson invested in the scheme, owning fifty £100 shares by 1823. Elected to the S&DR management committee, Richardson also became a partner in the locomotive manufacturers Robert Stephenson & Co. in 1823. The S&DR suffered financial difficulties in the first few years of operation, Richardson guaranteeing £10,000 of the debt in October 1825. By 1830 Richardson owned 141 S&DR shares; Richardson was also director of companies such as the Middlesbrough and Redcar and Wear Valley Railway, which were formed to expand the S&DR. Thomas Richardson FRS FRSE MRIA AICE (1816–1867) was an English industrial chemist, and industrial historian. Life Born on 8 October 1816 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, he was educated there. Around 1830 he went to Glasgow University, to study Chemistry under Prof Thomas Thomson. Richardson then went to the University of Giessen, where, under Prof Justus von Liebig, he carried out researches on the composition of coal and the use of lead chromate in organic analysis, gaining a doctorate (Ph.D.). He later went to Paris with Thomson, and completed his studies under Jules Pelouze. On his return to Newcastle, Richardson became a specialist in manufacturing chemistry, taking out a number of patents for processes. Thomas Richardson (6 June 1821 – 29 December 1890) was an English manufacturer of marine engines and Liberal Party politician. Life Richardson was born in Castle Eden, County Durham, the son of Thomas Richardson, a shipbuilder and owner of an engineering works in Hartlepool. Richardson began as an apprentice in his father's iron foundry in Castle Eden. On the death of his father in 1850, Richardson and his brother John took over the business which traded under the name of T. Richardson Sons. Their business was manufacturing marine engines, after they built their first marine engine in 1851. They were also shipbuilders for a short time, but this side of the company went out of business in 1857. Richardson stood unsuccessfully for Parliament in the newly enfranchised borough of The Hartlepools at the 1868 general election. Tom Richardson (1891 – after 1929) was an English footballer who played as a full back and spent the majority of his career at Worksop Town. He did have a three-year spell in the Football League with Sheffield United but managed only a handful of appearances in that time. He was born in Worksop.
