Thomas Pascoe
Thomas Pascoe (1847–1938) was an Englishman who initially worked in the Royal Navy for seven years and also witnessed the opening of the Suez canal. After he left the naval service, he migrated to the United States, where he became a hotel developer and proprietor in California. Early years According to J.M. Guinn's biography, Pascoe was born 10 March 1847 to George and Isabelle Pascoe in Cornwallm, where he spent his childhood. Other sources suggest a birth date of 1853. His service career started as a steward in the Royal Navy. He rose to the rank of chief steward and served for seven years as the head of his department in the naval ship "the man-of-war." During his naval career, he visited the Irish coast and the Mediterranean. In 1870, in his naval ship "the man-of-war", he visited Naples, and then Athens. Clifton House, Pennsylvania
Clifton House, previously known as Sandy Tavern, is a historic building located at 473 Bethlehem Pike in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. During the autumn of 1777, George Washington's Continental Army spent six weeks camped at nearby Philadelphia campaign, Whitemarsh. Colonels Clement Biddle (the "Quaker General" and member of one of Philadelphia, Philadelphia's prominent Biddle family, families) and Stephen Moylan, and George Weedon, General George Wheedon, were quartered here during the encampment. The house that currently stands on the property was built in 1801. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, American Revolution, it was known as the Sandy Tavern. Today, the Clifton House is a library and museum operated by the Fort Washington Historical Society, and also serves as the society's headquarters.
