Thomas J. Tolan
Thomas J. Tolan (October 22, 1830 – January 31, 1883) was an American architect. He was born in Carrollton, Ohio to James and Elizabeth Crabbs Tolan. Like his father, he began working as a marble cutter in Delphos, Ohio. He married Harriett Todd Skinner on October 24, 1853. At some point in his life he made the jump from being a marble craftsman to an architect. In 1874, he moved his family and architectural practice to Fort Wayne, Indiana. The firm was known as T.J. Tolan & Son, Architects. His son Brentwood S. Tolan trained under with him and continued the practice after his death. Tolan and his son were noted for designing municipal and local government buildings, including courthouses and jails. In addition they designed some churches and fraternal buildings. His most notable work included the courthouses in Van Wert, Ohio, Cambridge, Illinois, Bloomfield, Iowa, and Rockville, Indiana, Rockville, Lagrange, Indiana, Lagrange, and Warsaw, Indiana. Henry County Courthouse (Cambridge, Illinois)
The Henry County Courthouse, located at 307 West Center Street in Cambridge, is the county courthouse serving Henry County, Illinois. Built in 1878–1880, the courthouse is the fourth used in Henry County and the second built in Cambridge. Prominent Midwestern architects T. J. Tolan and Son designed the courthouses in the Second Empire style. The courthouse's four facades each feature three pavilions, one at the center and one at each edge; the main facade on the east side has a clock tower atop its central pavilion. The building's mansard roof includes several dormers and is surrounded by a dentillated cornice. Decorative stone elements such as moldings, belt courses, and quoin Quoins ( or ) are masonry blocks at the corner of a wall. McColloch-Weatherhogg Double House
The McColloch-Weatherhogg Double House, also known as the J. Ross McCulloch House, is a historic residential building constructed in 1883 in the Victorian Gothic Revival style at 334-336 E. Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. The building is now the home of United Way of Allen County and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 7, 2001. The house was built for banker Charles McCulloch, whose father Hugh McCulloch was Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and Chester A. Arthur. Thomas J. Tolan is believed to have been the building's architect. Kosciusko County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. At the 2020 United States Census, its population was 80,240. The county seat (and only incorporated city) is Warsaw.
