Thomas J. Kelly (Medal Of Honor)
Thomas Joseph Kelly (September 9, 1923 – October 2, 1988) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in World War II. Biography Kelly joined the Army from his birthplace of Brooklyn, New York, and by April 5, 1945, was serving as a Corporal in the Medical Detachment of the 48th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division. On that day, in Alemert, Germany, he repeatedly exposed himself to hostile fire in order to drag wounded men to safety. For these actions, he was awarded the Medal of Honor seven months later, on November 1, 1945. Kelly reached the rank of Sergeant before leaving the Army. Kelly was a graduate of the Fordham Law School and served as president of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. Combat Medic
A combat medic, or healthcare specialist, is responsible for providing emergency medical treatment at a point of wounding in a combat or training environment, as well as primary care and health protection and evacuation from a point of injury or illness. Additionally, medics may also be responsible for the creation, oversight, and execution of long-term patient care plans in consultation with or in the absence of a readily-available physician or advanced practice provider. The United States Army Center of Military History (CMH) is a directorate within the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Institute of Heraldry remains within the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army. The center is responsible for the appropriate use of history and military records throughout the United States Army. Traditionally, this mission has meant recording the official history of the army in both peace and war, while advising the army staff on historical matters.
