Thomas J. Cahill (June 8, 1910 – October 12, 2002) was the chief of police of San Francisco, California from 1958 to 1970, the longest tenure as chief of police in San Francisco history. He served under mayors George Christopher (mayor), George Christopher, John F. Shelley, and Joseph Alioto. Early life Cahill was born June 8, 1910, on Montana Street on the North Side of Chicago. His family returned to County Kilkenny, Ireland, when he was a child, and Cahill returned to San Francisco in 1930., Retrieved 2013-06-03.
