Tom Hickey (actor)
Tom Hickey (1944 – 1 May 2021) was an Irish actor who appeared on stage and screen in a career that began in the early 1960s. He was best known for playing Benjy Riordan in the long-running television series, ''The Riordans''. Early life Born in Kildare, Hickey began his career in 1963 at Deirdre O'Connell's Stanislavski Studio in Dublin where he trained in Stanislavski's system of acting. He said that he saw his choice of profession as a "vocation", having decided to become an actor when he was five or six years old. Television In 1965, Hickey joined the cast of RTÉ television's new rural drama series, ''The Riordans''. He went on to play the part of Benjy Riordan in the successful serial for the next sixteen years. Thomas Henry "Bo" Hickey (October 7, 1945 – February 28, 2023) was an American professional football player who was a fullback for the Denver Broncos of the American Football League (AFL). He played college football for the Maryland Terrapins. Early life and high school Hickey was born and grew up in Stamford, Connecticut and attended Stamford Catholic High School, where he played football, baseball, basketball and ran track. He was named All-Fairfield County and All-State in football as a senior. College career Hickey spent two seasons at the University of Maryland, sitting out his freshman year as freshmen were ineligible to play varsity sports at the time. Thomas Valentine Hickey (14 February 1933 – 2 January 2020) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Cape St. Francis in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1966 to 1986 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. The son of Thomas and Mary Hickey, he was born at Outer Cove and was educated there and at Memorial University. Hickey married Dorothy Grace Wall; the couple had one daughter; SuzAnne Valentina. He worked for the Department of Social Services, was a sales representative for British American Oil and then was the owner of a groceteria. Early life Hickey is a high school graduate of the Edge School in Calgary, Alberta. Thomas Hickey (1741–1824) was an Irish painter. Born in Dublin, Hickey was the son of Noah, a confectioner in Capel Street, and Anne Hickey. A younger brother was John Hickey, the sculptor. He was trained at the Royal Dublin Society schools under Robert West. Hickey painted primarily portraits and genre scenes. He traveled widely, working in India, Portugal, Italy and England, residing in Bath between 1776 and 1780. On his voyage to India, the vessel in which he was travelling was captured by French and Spanish fleets which led him to Lisbon, where, after receiving a number of commissions, he remained for several years. He eventually reached Bengal and stayed there until 1791 when he returned to England. He then traveled as far as Peking, China with George Macartney, 1st Earl Macartney as the expedition's official portrait painter. Thomas Hickey (died June 28, 1776) was a Continental Army soldier in the American Revolutionary War, and the first person to be executed by the Continental Army for "mutiny, sedition, and treachery". Born in Ireland, Hickey came to America as a soldier in the British Army and fought as a combat field servant to Major General William Johnson in the Seven Years' War. He later joined the Patriot cause when the American Revolution broke out, and became part of the Life Guard, which protected General George Washington, his staff, and the Continental Army's payroll. Hickey was briefly jailed for passing counterfeit money; during this incarceration, he told another prisoner he was part of a conspiracy. He was later tried and executed for mutiny and sedition against the Continental Army. Thomas Francis Hickey (February 4, 1861 – December 10, 1940) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as the second bishop of the Diocese of Rochester in New York (1909–1928). Biography Early life Hickey was born in Rochester, New York on February 4, 1861, to Jeremiah and Margaret Hickey. He studied at St. John's Seminary and Fordham University, both in New York City, and at St. Joseph's Seminary in Troy New York. Hickey was ordained to the priesthood on March 25, 1884. After his ordination, he held pastoral positions in parishes in Geneva and Moravia, New York. Hickey then became chaplain of the New York State Industrial School in Rochester.
