Thomas Fraser (Upper Canada Politician)
Thomas Fraser (1749 – October 18, 1821) was a soldier and political figure in Upper Canada. He was born in Stratherrick, Inverness, Scotland in 1749. His family came to North America in 1767 and settled on the estate of Sir William Johnson in Tryon County, New York. In 1777, he and his brother were captured while trying to escape to Quebec. They escaped and joined Major-General John Burgoyne at Fort Edward. After the fall of Saratoga, they escaped north to Quebec. In 1779, they served as border guards at the Yamaska River and later became Lieutenants in Edward Jessup's Loyal Rangers. In 1784, he settled in Edwardsburg Township, where he built a sawmill. In 1786, he became a justice of the peace and, in 1792, was appointed to the land board for Leeds and Grenville counties. He was also the first sheriff in the Johnstown District. Thomas Fraser (New Zealand Politician)
Thomas Fraser (27 December 1807 – 24 June 1891) was a 19th-century Member of Parliament in Otago, New Zealand. Fraser was born in Inverness-shire; his father was Captain Thomas Fraser. He joined the East India Company at age 16 as a member of the 7th Bengal Cavalry. He held the rank of captain at his retirement in 1842 and went to live in France for some time. He came to Wellington in New Zealand on the ''Oliver Lang'' on 18 September 1858. In Otago, Fraser settled on a sheep station in the Shag Valley; located off what is now State Highway 85 roughly half-way between Dunback and Morrisons. Fraser represented the Hampden electorate from 1861 to 1862, when he was vacated for absence. He was appointed onto the executive committee of the Otago Provincial Council in 1868 and was deputy-superintendent under James Macandrew. Thomas Frazer (stonemason)
Thomas Frazer (August 8, 1821 in Lortny, Scotland – March 16, 1904 in Beaver, Utah) was an American mason known for his work in Beaver, Utah. Born in Lortny, Scotland, he created many works that are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Early history Thomas Frazer was born in 1821, 25 miles northwest of Dundee, Scotland in the small mill town of Lortny. After a stint as a worker in a weaving factory, Frazer became a stonemason, working with a gang of masons on a number of construction projects. He married in 1861 at the age of 40, and moved in that year with his new bride to the Utah Territory in the United States to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked on the new temple in Salt Lake City, and was then sent to help settle the town of Lehi, Utah. Thomas Fraser of Lovat and Kinnell, 4th Laird of Lovat (died c. 1455), was a Scottish lord, and the Chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat. Fraser was the son of Hugh Fraser of Lovat and Kinnell, 3rd Laird of Lovat, and Lady Janet Fenton. He flourished in the 1440s and 1450s. He married Lady Janet Dunbar. Thomas Fraser, 2nd Lord Lovat (died 21 October 1524) was a Scottish peer and Chief of Clan Fraser of Lovat from c. 1500/c. 1501 until 1524. He was the only son of Hugh Fraser, 1st Lord Lovat (died c. 1500/c. 1501) and Violetta Lyon, daughter of Patrick Lyon, 1st Lord Glamis, through whom he was a great-great-great-grandson of Robert II. Lovat married, first, Janet Gordon, the daughter of Sir Alexander Gordon of Abergeldie, with whom he had three sons (Hugh, William and James) and three daughters (Margaret, Isobel and Janet). His second marriage was to Janet Gray, the daughter of Patrick, Master of Gray, with whom he had three sons (Robert, Andrew and Thomas). Thomas Augustus Fraser Jr. (April 17, 1915 – October 20, 1989) was eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina from 1965 to 1983. Early life and education Fraser was born on April 17, 1915, in Atlanta, Georgia, son of Thomas Augustus Fraser Sr and Lena Lee Connell. He grew up in New York City. He graduated from Hobart College with a B.A in 1931. Later he enrolled in the Virginia Theological Seminary and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1941. He earned the Doctor of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1960 and another from Sewanee: The University of the South in 1961 and from Wake Forest University in 1965. He also earned a Doctor of Sacred Theology from Hobart College in 1965 and a Doctor of Humane Letters from St. Augustine's University (Raleigh, North Carolina) in 1974. Sir Thomas Richard Fraser (5 February 1841 – 4 January 1920) was a British physician and pharmacologist. Together with Alexander Crum Brown he discovered the relationship between physiological activity and chemical constitution of the body. Life He was born in Calcutta in India on 5 February 1841, the second son of Mary Palmer and John Richard Fraser, Indian civil servant. Fraser attended the University of Edinburgh Medical School and graduated with an MD and gold medal in 1862. His award-winning thesis was based on the positive medical applications of physostigmine.
