Thomas Ford (politician)
Thomas Ford (December 5, 1800 – November 3, 1850) was a lawyer, judge, author and the List of Governors of Illinois, eighth Governor of Illinois. The first Illinois governor to be raised in the state, he served from 1842 to 1846 and became known for restoring the state's solvency and reducing geographic sectionalism, as well as for leading the legislature despite his lack of prior political experience. A lifelong Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, Ford is also remembered for anti-Mormon sentiments and vacillation which led to the death of Joseph Smith, and the subsequent History of the Latter Day Saint movement#Movement in Illinois, Illinois Mormon War of 1844-1845. John Moore (Illinois Politician)
John Moore (September 8, 1793 – September 23, 1866), nicknamed "Honest John", was an English American politician who served as Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. He also served in the Mexican–American War as lieutenant colonel and was later elected Illinois Treasurer. Biography John Moore was born in Lincolnshire, England on September 8, 1793. An orphan for most of his childhood, he immigrated to the United States when he was twenty years old. After briefly living in Virginia, Moore settled in Hamilton County, Ohio. In 1830, he again headed westward to Randolph Township, McLean County, Illinois and became a wheelwright. A year later, he was elected a justice of the peace. Moore quickly rose to prominence in the Democratic Party, and by 1836, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives. Joseph Duncan (politician)
Joseph Duncan (February 22, 1794January 15, 1844) was an Illinois politician. He served as the sixth Governor of Illinois from 1834 to 1838, the only Whig to ever govern the state. Before becoming governor he served four terms in the United States House of Representatives as a Democrat. Early and family life Duncan was born in Paris, Kentucky. He served in the War of 1812 and the Black Hawk War as a soldier. Career Duncan moved to Illinois in the year of its statehood, 1818, settling in Brownsville in Jackson County. Cahokia, Illinois
Cahokia was a village in St. Clair County, Illinois, United States. It was located east of the Mississippi River in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, 15,241 people lived in the village, a decline from 16,391 in 2000. On May 6, 2021, the village ceased to exist, being incorporated into the new city of Cahokia Heights.
