Thomas Crowley (Australian Politician)
Thomas Martin Crowley (15 November 1901 – 18 October 1965) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Crowley was born at Innisfail, Queensland, the son of James Crowley and his wife Margaret (née Fitzgerald). He was educated at the Good Samaritan Convent in Innisfail and after leaving school was a wholesaler of wines, spirits and groceries in Cairns and a sugar cane and tobacco farmer at Mossman. Electoral District Of Cairns
Cairns is an electoral district in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland in the state of Queensland, Australia. The division encompasses the central business district and inner-suburbs of Cairns, in Far North Queensland. Major locations include Bungalow, Manoora, Kanimbla, Earlville and Woree. History Created in 1888, Cairns has historically tended to be a safe Labor seat with a blue-collar economy based on sugar, mining and railways. However, in recent decades such industry has been surpassed in importance by tourism and service industries for wealthier retirees and has grown increasingly marginal. Cairns City Council
The City of Cairns was a local government area centred on the Far North Queensland city of Cairns. Lou Barnes
Louis Joseph Barnes (13 January 1906 – 2 June 1983) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Barnes was born at Gympie, Queensland, the son of George Daniel Barnes and his wife Bridget Maria (née Gorey). He was educated at the Christian Brothers' College in Gympie and after leaving school was a tea merchant in 1932, a traveler for the Castlemaine Perkins and from 1947 until 1975 a men's Mercer at Beaudesert. On 24 April 1934 he married Muriel Eileen Burke and together had two sons. Later changing his middle name to Gabriel, Barnes died at Southport in June 1983 and was buried in the Southport Lawn Cemetery. Public career Barnes, a member of the King O'Malley Labor Party, won the 1942 by-election for the seat of Cairns in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Cairns (, ) is a city in Queensland, Australia, on the tropical north east coast of Far North Queensland.
