Thomas Chan
Thomas Shun-Kuei Chan (; born 1963) is a Taiwanese lawyer and politician. He was deputy minister of the Environmental Protection Administration between 20 May 2016 and 8 October 2018. Early life Chan obtained his bachelor's degree in law from National Taiwan University in 1985. He then worked as an environmental lawyer. Taitung Miramar Resort case Thomas Chan is known for his volunteer (pro bono) work on the build–operate–transfer (BOT) Taitung Miramar Resort case. On 23 December 2008, in conjunction with community plaintiffs (including indigenous land rights activist, Lin Shu-ling) and Wild at Heart Legal Defense Association, Chan challenged the validity of an environmental impact assessment (EIA) retrospectively conducted by the Taitung County Government in relation to the Taitung Miramar Resort. Executive Yuan
The Executive Yuan () is the executive branch of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its leader is the Premier, who is appointed by the President of the Republic of China, and requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan. Under the amended constitution, the head of the Executive Yuan is the Premier who is positioned as the head of government and has the power to appoint members to serve in the cabinet, while the ROC President is the head of state under the semi-presidential system, who can appoint the Premier and nominate the members of the cabinet. The Premier may be removed by a vote of no-confidence by a majority of the Legislative Yuan, after which the President may either remove the Premier or dissolve the Legislative Yuan and initiate a new election for legislators. Lin Chuan
Lin Chuan (; born 13 December 1951) is a Taiwanese economist and politician who served as Premier of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2017 under President Tsai Ing-wen. He served as Minister of Budget, Accounting and Statistics and Minister of Finance during Chen Shui-bian's presidency. Early life and education Lin is of Mainland Chinese descent, and was born in Kaohsiung on 13 December 1951. He graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1974, before earning a master's in public finance from National Chengchi University in 1978. Lin returned to the study of economics in the United States, obtaining his doctorate in the subject at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1984. The Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP; ), formerly known as the Council of Aboriginal Affairs, is a ministry-level body under the Executive Yuan in Taiwan (Republic of China). It was established to serve the needs of the country's indigenous populations as well as a central interface for the indigenous community with the government. The Council promotes the use and revitalization of Taiwan's indigenous languages, supported legislation that would grant autonomous land to indigenous peoples, strengthened relations between Taiwan's indigenous groups and those in other countries and raised awareness of indigenous cultures.
