Thokottu
Thokottu is a commercial junction to the south of Mangalore city on National Highway 66 (previously known as NH 17) and the gateway to Mangalore city from the South (Kerala). It is one of the major and busiest junctions of Mangalore city wherein one road (Medical Corridor Road) goes towards east to Deralakatte and Konaje, educational hubs with several premium educational institutions and few information technology companies, the other road towards west goes to Ullal. This junction connects Mangalore city, second major city of Karnataka with Talapady and Kerala. A flyover is constructed in the junction to reduce the congestion for the travellers travelling between Mangalore city and Kerala. The creation of educational institutions in Deralakatte and Konaje has led to the construction of many commercial complexes in the area. Ullal
Ullal or ''Uḷḷāla'' is a City Municipality at Mangalore, educational, commercial & industrial hub in Dakshina Kannada district. It is located 10 km from the Mangalore City centre. Ullal City Municipality along with the Mangalore City Corporation forms the continuous Mangalore urban agglomeration area which is currently the fourth biggest in Karnataka after Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad. Konaje is a locality in Mangalore generally known as the educational hub. Konaje is governed by Dakshina Kannada zilla Panchayath. It is home to the vast campus of the Mangalore University which is also known as Mangalagangothri. The university is located on hill top. Deralakatte which houses two medical colleges is on way from Thokottu to Konaje. Software Major Infosys Technologies has a software development center in Konaje. National Highway 66 (India)
National Highway 66, commonly referred to as NH 66 (erstwhile NH-17 and a part of NH-47), is a mostly 4 lane long busy National Highway that runs roughly north–south along the western coast of India, parallel to the Western Ghats. It connects Panvel (a city south of Mumbai) to Cape Comorin (Kanyakumari), passing through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The highway is undergoing a major overhaul in Karnataka, where the state government has accepted the NHAI's request of international standard, 60-metre-wide national highway with grade separators. The complete stretch from the Goa border (near Karwar) to the Kerala border (near Talapady) is being widened to four lanes, with space to accommodate future expansion to six lanes. Dahi Handi
Dahi Handi (also known as Gopal Kala or Utlotsavam) is an entertainment and competitive event associated with Krishna Janmashtami, the Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Krishna. During the event, which takes place during August or September on the day after Krishna Janmashtami. It involves communities hanging a clay pot filled with yogurt (''dahi''), butter, or another milk-based food at a convenient or tall height. Young men and boys form teams, make a human pyramid, and attempt to reach or break the pot. As they do so, people surround them, sing, play music, and cheer them on. It is a public spectacle, and an old tradition. More recently, Dahi Handi was lavished with media coverage, prize money and commercial sponsorships. Pili Vesha in ('' Tulu'': ಪಿಲಿ ಏಸ) "Tiger Masque" is a folk dance unique in coastal Karnataka. Pilivēṣa is performed during Navratri to honour the Goddess Durga whose favoured animal is the tiger. Which is called mārnemi. Mangalore Dasara is one of the festivals during which large number of enthusiasts participate in this ritual.
