Loudon Wainwright III
Loudon Snowden Wainwright III (born September 5, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter and occasional actor. He has released twenty-six studio albums, four live albums, and six compilations. Some of his best-known songs include "The Swimming Song", "Motel Blues", "The Man Who Couldn't Cry", "Dead Skunk", and "Lullaby". In 2007, he collaborated with musician Joe Henry to create the soundtrack for Judd Apatow's film ''Knocked Up''. In addition to music, he has acted in small roles in at least eighteen television programs and feature films, including three episodes in the third season of the series ''M*A*S*H (TV series), M*A*S*H''. Reflecting upon his career in 1999, he stated, "You could characterize the catalog as somewhat checkered, although I prefer to think of it as a tapestry." Silvertone Records is a current British record label, owned by Sony Music UK. Originally an independent record label, owned by Clive Calder's Jive Records, which was acquired in time by Bertelsmann Music Group, the original BMG company which would go on to merge with Sony Music, bring the Jive catalogue to Sony as the Zomba Music Group. In 2017, Sony Music UK relaunched the brand as a label for left-field acts, with indie, alt-folk, blues and jazz acts represented in its signings. ''More Love Songs'' is a 1986 album by Loudon Wainwright III released on Rounder Records. Wainwright had moved to England, and this was the second album produced by (and featuring) Richard Thompson. Critically and popularly it is probably considered the peak of his 1980s renaissance. After three albums in four years, it would be another three years before he released the largely ignored ''Therapy''. The album was nominated for the "Best Contemporary Folk Recording" Grammy. The style of the album combines purely acoustic staples like "Your Mother and I" with piano-driven ballads like "The Back Nine" and full-blown rockers like "Vampire Blues" and "Hard Day on the Planet". ''History'' is an album by the American musician Loudon Wainwright III, released in 1992 on Charisma Records. Wainwright supported the album with North American and European tours. Production Wainwright chose the tracks from around 25 songs he had written over the course of four years. He originally wanted to use ''Family Album'' as the title. His ex-wives, Kate McGarrigle and Suzzy Roche, provided backing vocals on "So Many Songs". Syd Straw sang on "When I'm at Your House". A banjo was used on "The Doctor". The final track, "A Handful of Dust", is an adaptation of a song written by Wainwright's father. "Hitting You" references an incident with his daughter Martha Wainwright. B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Use of this language has largely declined in the 21st century as the music industry has transitioned away from analog recordings towards digital formats without physical sides, such as CDs, downloads and streaming.
