Theodor Pištěk (artist)
Theodor Pištěk (born 25 October 1932 in Prague) is a Czech painter, costume designer, set designer and former racing driver. His costume designs and film sets are internationally acclaimed. He won an Oscar for his costumes for Amadeus, directed by Miloš Forman. For Forman’s next film, Valmont, Pištěk won a César Award and was nominated for an Oscar. In 2003 he received the Czech Lion Award for Unique Contribution to Czech Film, in 2013 he was awarded the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema, and in 2017 he received the Golden Slipper for Outstanding Contribution to Films for Children and Young People. The Academy of Fine Arts, Prague ( cs, Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze; AVU) is an art college in Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1799, it is the oldest art college in the country. The school offers twelve master's degree programs and one doctoral program. Otakar Španiel
Otakar Španiel (13 June 1881 – 15 February 1955) was a Czech sculptor and engraver. Life and career Španiel was born on 13 June 1881 in Jaroměř. After primary education, he studied at the Engraving School in Jablonec nad Nisou and graduated from the Viennese Academy of Fine Arts in 1901. In his following years, he continued his studies at the Academy under the guidance of Josef Václav Myslbek, founder of modern Czech sculpting style. He later went to Paris to complete his fine arts education. His stay in Paris was crucial to him: while he was there he met Antoine Bourdelle, who influenced his distinctive style in his later works. In 1917, he became a professor at the School of Applied Arts in Prague, and from 1919, he was a professor at the Academy of Arts. The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, commonly known as Expo 67, was a general exhibition from April 27 to October 29, 1967. It was a category One World's Fair held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is considered to be one of the most successful World's Fairs of the 20th century with the most attendees to that date and 62 nations participating. It also set the single-day attendance record for a world's fair, with 569,500 visitors on its third day. Expo 67 was Canada's main celebration during its centennial year. ''The Valley of the Bees'' ( cs, Údolí včel) is a 1968 Czechoslovak historical drama film directed by František Vláčil. The film follows a young man Ondřej who's sent to join Teutonic order by his father. When he flees the order and returns home, his friend Armin is determined to bring him back. Plot The film is set in the 13th century. The lord of Vlkov marries much younger Lenora. His son Ondřej gives live bats to Lenora as a wedding gift, which enrages his father who almost kills him. The FIA European Formula 3 Cup was a Formula Three race held annually in Europe from 1985 to 1990 and 1999 to 2004. Concrete Art
Concrete art was an art movement with a strong emphasis on geometrical abstraction. The term was first formulated by Theo van Doesburg and was then used by him in 1930 to define the difference between his vision of art and that of other abstract artists of the time. After his death in 1931, the term was further defined and popularized by Max Bill, who organized the first international exhibition in 1944 and went on to help promote the style in Latin America. Karl Prantl (sculptor)
Karl Prantl (November 5, 1923 – October 8, 2010) was an Austrian sculptor. Biography Prantl was born in Pöttsching in the Austrian state Burgenland. He studied from 1946 to 1952 with the painter Albert Paris Gütersloh at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in Vienna. As the stone sculpture, stone sculptor he became he was an autodidactism, autodidact. He was the founder of the International Sculpture Symposium. He held his first international symposium (''Symposion Europaischer Bildhauer'') with 8 participants in the old quarry ''Römersteinbruch'' in Sankt Margarethen im Burgenland. The White Dove (1960 Film)
''The White Dove'' ( cs, Holubice) is a 1960 Czechoslovak film directed by František Vláčil. It is Vláčil's first full-length film. Plot The film is based on the short story "Susanne" by Otakar Kirchner: a dove belongs to a German girl, Susanne. The dove gets lost on its way from France to the Baltic Sea and ends up in Prague. The dove is shot by a crippled boy, Michal. It is found by a sculptor, Martin, who brings it to Michal. Michal helps the dove to recover and he befriends Martin. Martin finds from where the dove comes and sends there a picture of the bird. Susanne, is sad from the dove's absence but realises that the dove will return. Michal recovers together with the dove but does not want to give her up. Martin eventually convinces Michal to release the dove. František Vláčil
František Vláčil (19 February 1924, Český Těšín – 27 January 1999, Prague) was a Czech film director, painter, and graphic artist. Between 1945 and 1950, he studied aesthetics and art history at Masaryk University in Brno. Later he worked in various groups and ateliers (e.g. on animated films), but his main area became played film. His films are well known for extraordinarily high art quality. Vláčil was awarded many film prizes like the Prize of the International Film Festival 1998 in Karlovy Vary or the Czech Lion Prize for his longstanding contribution to world film culture.
