Theodor Esbern Philipsen (10 June 18403 March 1920) was a Danish painter of Jewish ancestry; known for landscapes and animal portraits. He also did small figures in wax and clay. The history of the Jews in Denmark goes back to the 1600s. At present, the Jewish community of Denmark constitutes a small minority of about 6,000 persons within Danish society. Kastrupgård
Kastrupgård is a former manor house in Kastrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. Dating from the mid 18th century, it is now a museum housing the Kastrupgård Collection (''Kastrupgårdsamlingen'') of modern art, which is owned and operated by Tårnby Municipality. History and architecture Kastrupgård was designed in rococo style by sculptor and architect Jacob Fortling (1711-1761) for his own use. It was built between 1749 to 1753. Fortling came to Denmark from Germany and became royal master builder and sculptor to the Danish Royal Court. He also founded the nearby Kastrup Pottery and Tile Works (''Kastrup Værk''). Carl Johan Wilhelm Madsen, commonly known as Karl Madsen, (22 March 1855 – 16 April 1938) was a Danish painter and art historian with close connections to the Skagen Painters. Early life and education Born in Copenhagen on 22 March 1855, Madsen was the son of painters Andreas Peter Madsen and Sophie Thorsøe Madsen.
