Velayuthapillai Baheerathakumar ( ta, வேலாயுதபிள்ளை பகீரதகுமார் ''Vēlāyutapiḷḷai Pakīratakumār''; 8 January 1966 – 4 April 2009; commonly known by the nom de guerre Theepan) was a leading member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups, separatist Tamil militant organisation in Sri Lanka. He played a leading role in the LTTE's military victories in the Vanni (Sri Lanka), Vanni during Eelam War III, including Battle of Mullaitivu (1996), Mullaitivu (1996), 1998 Battle of Kilinochchi, Kilinochchi (1998), Oddusuddan offensive (1999), Oddusuddan (1999) and Second Battle of Elephant Pass, Elephant Pass (2000). Battle Of Ananthapuram
The Battle of Aanandapuram was a land battle fought between the Sri Lankan Military, 58 Division, 53 Division and Task Force 8 and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for the control of the last stronghold held by the LTTE. This battle is a part of the Northern Theater of Eelam War IV during the Sri Lankan civil war. The battle was fought in the Aanandapuram area of Puthukkudiyirippu AGA Sri Lanka. Second Battle Of Elephant Pass
The Second Battle of Elephant Pass (code-named Operation Unceasing Waves III (ஓயாத அலைகள் மூன்று) by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), was a battle fought in April 2000 for the control of the Sri Lankan military base in Elephant Pass, Jaffna. Background Elephant Pass links the Jaffna Peninsula to the rest of the mainland by a narrow strip of land and is known as the ''Gateway to Jaffna''. The Jaffna-Kandy road, the A-9 Highway and the railway line to Jaffna run through Elephant Pass, making the narrow strip of land in a sense the gateway to Jaffna. Ananthapuram ( ta, ஆனந்தபுரம்) is a village in north-eastern Sri Lanka. It is located approximately north east of the town of Puthukkudiyiruppu and is by the A35 Paranthan-Mullaitivu highway. The village is one of nine in the Ananthapuram GN Division (Village Officer Division). Eastern Mullaitivu District including Ananthapuram witnessed particularly brutal fighting between the Sri Lankan military and the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the final months of the Sri Lankan Civil War in early 2009. Gopalaswamy Mahendraraja (1956 – 28 December 1994), also known as Mahattaya was a member of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam who was killed for leaking secrets to India's Research and Analysis Wing, RAW. Personal life Gopalaswamy Mahendraraja was related to Velupillai Prabhakaran, former LTTE leader. He was born in Point Pedro. LTTE Mahattaya joined the LTTE in 1978. Thenmarachchi is one of the three historic regions of the Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. The other two regions are Vadamarachchi and Valikamam.
