The Legend Of Kintu
Kintu is a mythological figure who appears in a creation myth of the Uganda people of Buganda, Uganda. According to this legend, Kintu was the first person on earth and the first man to wander the plains of Uganda alone. Kintu in mythology In the creation myth recorded by Harry Johnston, Kintu appears on the plains of Uganda with a cow which was his only possession and he fed on its milk and cow dung before being rewarded bananas and millet from the sky god, Ggulu. Before his encounter with Ggulu, Kintu meets a woman named Nnambi and her sister who had come from the sky. They first take his beloved cow to Ggulu to prove his humanness and to seek Ggulu's permission of his admission into the sky. Once arriving in the sky, Kintu's humanness is tested by Ggulu through five consecutive trials, each one trickier and more difficult than the last. Kaikuzi
Kaikuzi or Kayikuuzi is a character in the Gandan creation myth, The Legend of Kintu. He is the son of Ggulu. His name is translated as "the digger." He is responsible for attempting to rid the Earth of Walumbe, meaning "death" or "disease." The Legend After Kintu succeeds in Ggulu's tests and returns to Earth with Nambi and Walumbe, he soon finds that in keeping with the Ganda tradition, Walumbe, as a brother of the bride, desires one of Kintu's children as his own. Kintu refuses Walumbe and continues to do so throughout the years. Frustrated, Walumbe, then begins to kill a single child every day. After conversing with Ggulu, Kaikuzi is sent to aid Kintu in returning Walumbe to heaven. Kaikuzi grapples with Walumbe, who then retreats by burrowing into the Earth. Kaikuzi pursues Walumbe, yet soon tires of the task. Kaikuzi then orders that there be two days of silence so as to lure Walumbe out. Magongo, Kenya
Magongo is a town in Mombasa County, Kenya. It is an outlying township 10 minutes northwest of Mombasa Island, situated on the Nairobi road. Magongo is found in Changamwe constituency which is regarded as the richest constituency in Mombasa county when bearing in mind the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) which is the biggest employer in the county is found, also major infrastructures such as the Moi International Airport and the SGR train are all located here. Magongo used to be a low income area but recent infrastructure development such as road expansions and even a mall plus a major supermarket have changed the shape of the area. Gisu People
The Gisu people, or ''Bamasaba'' people of Elgon, are a Bantu tribe of the Masaba people of eastern Uganda, closely related to the Bukusu people of Kenya. Bamasaba live mainly in the Mbale District of Uganda on the slopes of Mount Elgon. Ancestor The Masaba, Bukusu and Luhya people believed that their ancestors were Mundu and Sera. John Roscoe
John Roscoe (1861–1932) was an Anglican missionary to East Africa. He conducted anthropological data collection of the Africans he encountered on mission. Roscoe was born in 1861, during the height of the Victorian era. Roscoe's career heavily echoed the Victorian notion of improving natives under British rule. He studied civil engineering before joining the Anglican Church Missionary Society. In 1884, on mission, he travelled to what became the Uganda Protectorate, and lived there among several African tribes until 1909. From his experiences in Africa, Roscoe wrote '' Twenty-Five Years in East Africa'', which was published in 1921. He intended the book to be an anthropological reference for Britons. Walumbe is a character in the Ganda creation myth, The Legend of Kintu. He is the son of Ggulu and the brother of Nambi. His name is translated from Lugandan as "disease" or "death" and he is responsible for death on Earth according to Gandan mythology. Nambi (mythology)
Nambi is the daughter of Mugulu, also known as Ggulu in some versions of Ugandan mythology. In the Ugandan creation myth, it is Nambi and her younger sister who discover Kintu, the first man. Nambi helps Kintu throughout his journey and trials, and eventually becomes his wife and mother of his children.
