The Wombats
The Wombats are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool in 2003, consisting of Matthew Murphy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass, backing vocals, keyboards), and Dan Haggis (drums, backing vocals, keyboards). They are independent and have distribution deals with AWAL and Warner Music Australia. They have sold over 1 million albums worldwide. They created several EPs before releasing their first full album, '' Girls, Boys and Marsupials'' (2006), which was released only in Japan. The band's debut studio album, '' A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation'' (2007), featured some tracks first released on ''Girls, Boys and Marsupials''. A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation
''The Wombats Proudly Present A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation'', usually shortened to ''A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation'', is the debut major studio album by English rock band the Wombats. It was released by 14th Floor Records on 5 November 2007. Most of the songs first appeared on the band's 2006 Japan-only album '' Girls, Boys and Marsupials''. A DVD to accompany the album includes footage of the band at the South by Southwest festival, along with music videos from their recent singles. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios and reached No. 11 in the UK Albums Chart. It contains a pregap before the first track, which contains the band attempting to make wine glasses "ring" and extolling the virtues of the French wine Beaujolais, ending with them performing a mock advert for Beaujolais. Glitterbug (album)
''Glitterbug'' is the third major studio album by British rock band The Wombats. The album was produced by Mark Crew alongside the band themselves, and was released on the 13th of April 2015. The first single from the album, "Your Body Is a Weapon", was released on iTunes on the 2nd of October 2013 in the United Kingdom and the 3rd of December in the United States. This was followed by "Greek Tragedy", " Give Me a Try", " Be Your Shadow" and "Emoticons". To celebrate the album's release, the '' Glitterbug B Sides EP'' was released on the same day. The album entered the UK charts at #5 and reached #2 in Australia, as well as charting at #91 in the US, becoming the band's first to appear in the Billboard 200. The band supported the album with their Glitterbug Tour 2015. Matthew Edward Murphy (born 23 July 1984) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of The Wombats, which he co-founded in 2003. He began a solo career under the name Love Fame Tragedy in 2018. "Moving to New York" is a song by the English band the Wombats, taken from their debut album '' A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation''. It was originally released as a non-album single on 7-inch, in limited edition packaging, on 26 October 2006; it was re-released on 14 January 2008, two months after the release of the album. "Moving to New York" is considered one of the band's signature songs. Like one of their other signature songs, " Let's Dance to Joy Division", the song was written by lead singer Matthew Murphy after an experience he had at a nightclub in the band's home city of Liverpool; however, whereas "Let's Dance to Joy Division" was inspired by spending a joyous night out with his then-girlfriend, Murphy wrote "Moving to New York" after being told by a girl he liked that she was going to stay in for the night before he went out to a nightclub and saw her there. Garston, Liverpool
Garston is a district of Liverpool. Historically in Lancashire, it is bordered by the suburbs of Grassendale, Allerton, and Speke. It lies on the Eastern banks of the River Mersey. History In medieval times, Garston was home to a group of Benedictine monks. The first recorded mention of settlement in Garston is of the Church of St Michael in 1235. By the 19th century, the area had become a small village, one of the eight townships forming the parish of Childwall. A small dock was first built at Garston in 1793 for Blackburne's Saltworks, which still stands today. Woolton (; ) is an affluent suburb of Liverpool, England. It is located southeast of the city and is bordered by Allerton, Gateacre, Halewood, and Hunt's Cross. At the 2011 Census, the population was 12,921. Overview Originally a standalone village, Woolton was incorporated into Liverpool in 1913. The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) is a performing arts higher education institution in Liverpool, founded by Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty and opened in 1996.
