"The Winter Line" is the second episode in the third season of the HBO science fiction dystopian thriller television series ''Westworld''. The episode aired on March 22, 2020. It was written by Matthew Pitts and series co-creator Lisa Joy, and directed by Richard J. Lewis. The episode served as Thandie Newton's pick to support her nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Plot summary In Warworld, Maeve is rescued by Hector and eludes Nazi guards. She soon realizes that Hector is just playing out a narrative like in Westworld and that he no longer remembers who she is. She kills herself, which sends her back to Operations. When she escapes and tries to lobotomize herself, Lee Sizemore stops her, revealing he survived being shot in Westworld. ''Westworld'' is an American dystopian science fiction western television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy for HBO. It is based on the 1973 film of the same name written and directed by Michael Crichton, and, to a lesser extent, its 1976 sequel, ''Futureworld''. The series premiered on October 2, 2016. The story begins in Westworld, a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park populated by android "hosts". The park caters to high-paying guests who may indulge their wildest fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from the hosts, who are prevented by their programming from harming humans. Later on, the series' setting expands to the real world, in the mid-21st century, where people's lives are driven and controlled by a powerful artificial intelligence named Rehoboam. "The Passenger" is the tenth and final episode of the second season of the HBO science fiction western thriller television series ''Westworld''. The episode aired on June 24, 2018. It was written by series co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and directed by Frederick E.O. Toye. The episode's plot deals with all characters in the past converging at the Valley Beyond, Bernard's choices regarding Dolores and Strand, and the final plot twist connecting both timelines of the season. The episode also includes a post-credits scene, much like the first season's finale. "The Passenger" received generally positive reviews, although it became, at 72%, the lowest rated episode at Rotten Tomatoes in the second season. Critics praised the resolution of the plot as well as the performances of the cast, especially those of Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Thandiwe Newton and Tessa Thompson, but the final plot twist and the highly convoluted nature of the episode drew some criticism. John Michael Crichton (; October 23, 1942 – November 4, 2008) was an American author and filmmaker. His books have sold over 200 million copies worldwide, and over a dozen have been adapted into films. His literary works heavily feature technology and are usually within the science fiction, techno-thriller, and medical fiction genres. His novels often explore technology and failures of human interaction with it, especially resulting in catastrophes with biotechnology.
