The Wheel In Space
''The Wheel in Space'' is the mostly missing seventh and final serial of the fifth season in the British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', which originally aired in six weekly parts from 27 April to 1 June 1968. In this serial, the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his travelling companion Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines) become stranded on a seemingly abandoned spaceship called ''Silver Carrier''. They make contact with and board another wheel-shaped space station known as ''W3'', only to discover that a small group of Cybermen have followed and plan on using the wheel's radio link to Earth as a beacon for their invasion fleet. Patrick Troughton
Patrick George Troughton (; 25 March 1920 – 28 March 1987) was an English actor who was classically trained for the stage but became known for his roles in television and film. His work included appearances in several fantasy, science fiction and horror films, and playing the Second Doctor, second incarnation of The Doctor (Doctor Who), the Doctor in the long-running British science fiction on television, science-fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' from 1966 to 1969; he reprised the role in 1972–1973, 1983 and 1985. Although he is most well known for his television career and was loved by audiences for his versatility in roles, many of the productions Troughton performed in between 1947 and 1971 were amongst those either never recorded or Wiping, destroyed by UK broadcasters, most notably his stint on ''Doctor Who''. The fifth season of British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' began on 2 September 1967 with the first story of season 5 ''The Tomb of the Cybermen'' and ended on 1 June 1968 with ''The Wheel in Space''. Only 22 out of 40 episodes are held in the BBC archives; 18 remain missing. As a result, only 2 serials exist entirely. Brian Hodgson
Brian Hodgson (born 1938) is a British television composer and sound technician. Born in Liverpool in 1938, Hodgson joined the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1962 where he became the original sound effects creator for the science fiction programme ''Doctor Who''. He devised the sound of the TARDIS (which he created by running the back door key to his mother's house along a bass string of a gutted piano, then electronically treating the recording) and the voices of the Daleks, which he created by distorting the actors' voices and feeding them through a ring modulator. He continued to produce effects for the programme until 1972 when he left the Workshop, leaving Dick Mills to produce effects for the remainder of the show's run. Peter Bryant (27 October 1923 – 19 May 2006) was an English television producer, script editor and former actor. He acted in ''The Grove Family'' as a regular cast member and later became the producer of ''Doctor Who'' from 1967 to 1969 during Patrick Troughton's tenure as the Second Doctor. Derrick Sherwin
Derrick George Sherwin (16 April 1936 – 17 October 2018) was an English television producer, writer, story editor and actor. After beginning his career in the theatre, Sherwin became an actor in television before moving into writing. He became the story editor on '' Doctor Who'' and, as the producer of the series in 1969, he oversaw the transition from black-and-white to colour by producing Patrick Troughton's final story and Jon Pertwee's first. He also co-produced ''Paul Temple'' for the BBC. Christopher Magnus Howard "Kit" Pedler (11 June 1927 – 27 May 1981) was a British medical scientist, parapsychologist and science fiction author. Biography He was the head of the electron microscopy department at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London, where he published a number of papers. Pedler's first television contribution was for the BBC programme Tomorrow's World. In the mid-1960s, Pedler became the unofficial scientific adviser to the '' Doctor Who'' production team. Hired by Innes Lloyd to inject more hard science into the stories, Pedler formed a particular writing partnership with Gerry Davis, the programme's story editor. David Arthur Whitaker (18 April 1928 – 4 February 1980) was an English television writer and novelist who worked on the early years of the science-fiction TV series ''Doctor Who''. He served as the programme's first story editor, supervising the writing of its first 51 episodes from 1963 to 1964. Career Prior to joining the BBC, Whitaker worked as a writer, actor and director with the York Repertory Group. Tristan John de Vere Cole (born 16 March 1935) is an English television director, now retired. In his first career, he was a Royal Navy Officer for seven years. Roy Skelton
Roy William Skelton (20 July 1931 – 8 June 2011) was an English stage, screen and voice actor, whose voice was more familiar to television viewers than his name. Born in Nottingham to John H Skelton and Dorothy (née Bromley), he provided the voices for many characters on British television for nearly fifty years, particularly the characters of both Zippy and George on ''Rainbow'', which the actor first joined in the early 1970s and performed on until it was axed in 1991. However, due to the fame of the characters, he continued to voice Zippy and George in guest appearances on television in series such as ''The Weakest Link'' and ''TV Burp'' until his death. Peter John Hawkins (3 April 1924 – 8 July 2006) was a British actor. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, he was one of the most sought-after voice artists for radio and television, becoming a regular face and voice around the Soho-based circuit of commercial production studios, and working regularly with actors including Patrick Allen, Edward Judd, and Sir David Jason.
