The West Tonight
''The West Tonight'' was a regional news programme for the West of England, produced by ITV West. History The launch of Harlech Television in May 1968 led to the launch of a full half-hour evening news programme, ''Report'', broadcast to South Wales and the West of England. Previously, former ITV franchise holder for Wales and the West of England TWW had provided short evening bulletins known as ''TWW Reports'', presented jointly from studios in Cardiff and Bristol, where the station ran a joint news operation covering the two areas. The opening of a colour service from the Mendip transmitter in May 1970 led to the creation of a separate HTV West service and the launch of a full evening news programme for the region, ''Report West''. Up until the early 1980s, the first half of the programme also aired on HTV's 'General Service', followed by a full edition of ''Report Wales''. HTV West
ITV Wales and West, previously known as Harlech Television (HTV), was an ITV franchise area in the United Kingdom until 31 December 2013, licensed to a broadcaster by the regulator Ofcom. There is no channel, past or present, named "ITV Wales and West". The licence relates to a "dual region", meaning that the franchise area was divided into two sub-regions, Wales and the West of England, each of which had to be served by distinct and separate ITV programme services, as more fully defined within the licence. From January 2014, the dual-region licence was split in two, with ITV Cymru Wales for Wales and ITV West Country covering the both the West of England sub-region and South West England. Both licences remain held by ITV plc through its subsidiary ITV Broadcasting Ltd, and the legal names of the former HTV companies have not yet been changed again. Bob Crampton
Bob Crampton is a British former journalist and TV presenter. Early life and career Crampton was born in South Africa. His father was the country's first radio DJ to introduce piano music. At the age of 11, Crampton wanted to become a rugby player. He was educated at Sutton High School in Plymouth. After leaving Sutton High School, he was employed by a small weekly newspaper in North Devon for a four-year apprenticeship as a reporter. In 1983, Crampton moved to ITV Wales & West and became a news presenter and reporter. In 2008 he was appointed the weather presenter for ''The West Tonight''. On 16 February 2009 the ''ITV News West Country'' launched, following the merger of ''The West Tonight'' with ''Westcountry Live'', Crampton was retained alongside Alex Beresford. ITV News ''Granada Reports'' is a British television news service broadcast and produced by ITV Granada. Overview ''Granada Reports'' is produced and broadcast from studios in the Orange Tower at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays. Annie St John
Annie St John (born Ann Florence Heywood; 8 September 1954 – 10 December 1990) was a British television broadcaster. Originally from Blackpool, Lancashire, she attended Blackpool Aspire Academy, Blackpool Collegiate Grammar School for Girls and the Rose Bruford College, Rose Bruford Drama School. She worked as a mahout at the Blackpool Tower Circus and in repertory theatre in Bolton, Salisbury and the Young Vic in London. St John first made her name on television in 1978 as a hostess on the first two series of the networked Yorkshire Television, YTV game show ''3-2-1'', before joining HTV West in 1981 as a continuity announcer and newsreader. Her popularity in the Westcountry was as such that viewers launched a ''Save Our Annie'' campaign when she left the station in 1983 to join Tyne Tees Television in Newcastle. Peter Rowell
Peter Rowell (born 17 June 1958) is an English former radio and television presenter. Rowell spent much of his career working in the West of England. In March 2012, he was jailed for six years after admitting 12 charges of indecent sexual assault against underage girls and further charges of making and possessing indecent images of children. Career Born in Sunderland, County Durham, Rowell began his career as a presenter for BBC Radio Newcastle. Kevin Owen
Kevin Owen (born 1966) is a British television and radio news anchor, reporter and presenter who was born in Plymouth, UK. He has worked in UK regional and network broadcasting for more than three decades.
