The Waverly Gallery
''The Waverly Gallery'' is a play by Kenneth Lonergan. It is considered a " memory play". The show, first produced Off-Broadway in 2000, follows a grandson watching his grandmother slowly die from Alzheimer's disease. The play was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001. Kenneth Lonergan
Kenneth Lonergan (born October 16, 1962) is an American film director, playwright, and screenwriter. He is the co-writer of the film '' Gangs of New York'' (2002), and wrote and directed '' You Can Count on Me'' (2000), ''Margaret'' (2011), and '' Manchester by the Sea'' (2016). Lonergan is also known for his work as a playwright. His most noted plays include '' This Is Our Youth'', ''Lobby Hero'' and '' The Waverly Gallery''. Each also had a successful revival engagement on Broadway, which resulted in each play receiving a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. Lila Neugebauer
Lila Neugebauer (; born 1985) is an American theatre director, writer and artistic director. She gained acclaim for her direction of the Broadway revival of Kenneth Lonergan's ''The Waverly Gallery'' in 2018. The play earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Revival of a Play. In 2022 she directed her feature film debut, the A24 drama ''Causeway''. Early life Neugebauer was born and raised in New York City A native Upper West Sider, she grew up seeing plays and was exposed to theatre, and credits her mother for a lot of that. She attended the Hunter College High School, where she performed in ''Seven Minutes in Heaven'' by fellow student Lin-Manuel Miranda. Neugebauer played a partygoer. The Obie Awards or Off-Broadway Theater Awards are annual awards originally given by ''The Village Voice'' newspaper to theatre artists and groups in New York City. The Drama Desk Award is an annual prize recognizing excellence in New York theatre.
