The Vines (band)
The Vines are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1994. Their sound has been described as a musical hybrid of 1960s garage rock and 1990s alternative rock. The band has been through several line-up changes, with vocalist/guitarist Craig Nicholls serving as the sole constant throughout the band's history. The Vines' success in the Australian recording industry resulted in winning the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist – Single for "Get Free (The Vines song), Get Free" and receiving five other nominations for their debut album ''Highly Evolved'', plus two further nominations in subsequent years. In 2003, the album went Music recording sales certification, platinum in Australia, and since then the band has released four albums and a greatest hits album, best-of compilation from their time at Capitol Records. Craig Nicholls
Craig Robert Nicholls (born 31 August 1977) is an Australian musician, best known as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the Australian alternative rock band The Vines, of which he is the sole continuous member. Early life Nicholls was born in Sydney. Terry Nicholls, his father, was the guitarist and vocalist in a 1960s group named The Vynes. He later worked as an accountant for Sony Music Australia. Nicholls has an older brother, Matt, an older sister, Tara, who is a solicitor, and a younger sister, Jessica. Nicholls' father taught him to play guitar during childhood. Brad Heald
Brad Heald (born 3 March 1983) is an Australian musician. Heald was the bass guitarist in the Australian garage rock band The Vines and lead guitarist of Sydney band Red Riders; and is currently the bass player of Angus Stone's project, Dope Lemon. He also has played with Australian indie-punk bands Dune Rats and Skegss. Biography Originally from Cronulla in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney, Brad grew up playing piano. His mother was a classical piano player. After learning guitar and bass, he began playing in Sydney band D'Arcy. After meeting Vines guitarist Ryan Griffiths at a house party that D'Arcy played, Heald was invited to try out for The Vines. He officially replaced Patrick Matthews, the previous bass guitarist of The Vines, in 2006. Rishikesh, also spelt as Hrishikesh, is a city near Dehradun in Dehradun district of the Indian state Uttarakhand. Patrick Matthews
Youth Group is an Australian rock band based in Newtown, New South Wales. Built around the vocals of singer Toby Martin and production of Wayne Connolly, the sound of Youth Group is reminiscent of indie rock artists such as Teenage Fanclub, Pavement and Death Cab for Cutie. "Get Free" is a song by the Australian garage rock band the Vines from their debut album ''Highly Evolved''. The song was released in mid 2002, and remains the Vines' highest-charting single (#7 Billboard Modern Rock, #24 UK Singles Chart).Billboard/ref> Track listing Composition "Get Free" features Nicholls strumming the 5th and 3rd frets for the main riff.
