The Valley (stadium)
The Valley is a 27,111 capacity sports stadium in Charlton, London, England and has been the home of Charlton Athletic Football Club since the 1920s, with a period of exile between 1985 and 1992. It is served by Charlton railway station, which is less than a five-minute walk away from the stadium. History In Charlton's early years, the club had a nomadic existence using several different grounds between its formation in 1905 and the beginning of World War I in 1914. The ground dates from 1919, at a time when Charlton were moderately successful and looking for a new home. Mr Fred Barned, the club’s honorary chairman, found an abandoned sand and chalk pit in Charlton, but did not have sufficient funds to fully develop the site. An army of volunteer Charlton supporters dug out a flat area for the pitch at the bottom of the chal ...

The Western Lands
''The Western Lands'' is a 1987 novel by William S. Burroughs. The final book of the trilogy that begins with ''Cities of the Red Night'' (1981) and continues with '' The Place of Dead Roads'' (1983), its title refers to the western bank of the Nile River, which in Egyptian mythology is the Land of the Dead. Inspired by the Egyptian ''Book of the Dead'', Burroughs explores the after-death state by means of dream scenarios, hallucinatory passages, talismanic magic, occultism, superstition, and his characteristic view of the nature of reality. Summary The prose shifts back and forth between Burroughs' characters and episodes clearly drawn from his own life. Autobiographical scenes include vignettes where Burroughs takes out evidence of amphetamine prescription bottles his mother gave him to sink with a large stone at the bottom of the Lake Worth Lagoon in Florida. The bottles were evidence his mother found in her grandson's, Burroughs' own son's, bedroom. While Burroughs is ankle ...

Bound By The Beauty
''Bound By the Beauty'' is a 1989 album by Jane Siberry. It received better reviews than her previous album, ''The Walking'', and the title track received more extensive radio airplay than Siberry had seen since "One More Colour" in 1985. The track "Half Angel Half Eagle" was controversial. Siberry used the images of an angel and an eagle soaring over a city to depict a view of both the beauty and the ugliness of city life; the ugliness was apparent in the lyric "fucking honky nigger Jew/WASP Jap dago fag/fucking homeless preacher dyke/cabbie fucking union scab". Siberry was commenting on the prevalence of this type of offensive language on the streets of a big city. "Something About Trains" also appeared (as "This Old Earth") on ''The Top of His Head'', the soundtrack to Peter Mettler's film ''The Top of His Head''; the song was a Genie Award nominee for Best Original Song at the 11th Genie Awards in 1990. Mettler also took the album's cover photograph. Track listing All ...

The Valley (Whitechapel Album)
''The Valley'' is the seventh studio album by American deathcore band Whitechapel. It was released through Metal Blade Records on March 29, 2019 to very positive reviews. On April 14, 2020, an acoustic version of "Hickory Creek" was released. It marks the first Whitechapel song to include entirely clean vocals. ''Loudwire'' named it one of the 50 best metal albums of 2019. Composition ''The Valley'' is a concept album based on vocalist and writer Phil Bozeman's childhood; the title is a reference to Hardin Valley, Tennessee, where Bozeman grew up. His father, Michael Gary Bozeman, passed away in 1995 when Phil was ten, while his mother struggled with alcoholism and schizophrenia; "When a Demon Defiles a Witch" is an interpretation of one of her visions she wrote down in a journal entry. She eventually remarried, but Bozeman's step-father turned out to be abusive towards both of them: Bozeman has called him a "predator" and holds him responsible for introducing his mother to cr ...
