''The Train Now Standing'' is a British sitcom that aired on ITV from 1972 to 1973. Set in a quiet country railway station, the series starred Bill Fraser, known by that point for playing Snudge in the sitcoms ''The Army Game'' and ''Bootsie and Snudge''. It was based on the BBC Radio sitcom '' Parsley Sidings''. Filming The outdoor scenes for ''The Train Now Standing'' were filmed at the then disused Bodiam railway station in East Sussex. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833, received its enabling Act of Parliament on 31 August 1835 and ran its first trains in 1838 with the initial route completed between London and Bristol in 1841. It was engineered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who chose a broad gauge of —later slightly widened to —but, from 1854, a series of amalgamations saw it also operate standard-gauge trains; the last broad-gauge services were operated in 1892. Thomas Timothy Garfield Morgan (19 April 1931 – 5 December 2009) was an English actor who appeared mostly on television and occasionally in films. Biography Born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, Morgan began acting with a youth club drama group in Erdington where he grew up. He apprenticed as a dental mechanic before enrolling into drama school. He started his acting career with the Arena Theatre, Birmingham. Denis Lill
Denis Lill (born 22 April 1942) is a New Zealand-born British actor. He is best known for his roles in '' Survivors'' as Charles Vaughan, ''Only Fools and Horses'' as Alan Parry, ''Outside Edge'' as Dennis Broadley and as Consultant General Surgeon Mr Rose in the ITV1 medical drama ''The Royal''. George Waring (actor)
George Waring (20 February 1925 – 15 February 2010) was a British television actor from 1962 to 2000. He also had occasional feature film credits. He was best known for appearing on '' Coronation Street'' as Arnold Swain, the bigamist husband of Emily Bishop in 1980. Earlier in the 1970s he appeared in '' Crown Court'', the long running ITV courtroom drama series. He also appeared in episodes of '' Doctor Who'' in 1967. He attended Ducie High School, Manchester and joined the Royal Air Force at the age of 18.
