The Toys That Made Us
''The Toys That Made Us'' is an American documentary streaming television series created by Brian Volk-Weiss. The first four episodes of the series began streaming on Netflix on December 22, 2017, and the next four were released on May 25, 2018. The eight-episode documentary series, as it was originally touted, focuses on the history of important toy lines. The first four episodes focus on the '' Star Wars'', He-Man, Barbie, and G.I. Joe toy lines with subsequent episodes featuring LEGO, Transformers, Hello Kitty, and '' Star Trek'', which aired on May 25, 2018. On July 19, 2018, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the show had been picked up for a third season, with episodes featuring ''Power Rangers'', professional wrestling, My Little Pony, and ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'', and was released to Netflix on November 15, 2019. Brian Volk-Weiss (born May 28, 1976) is an American film and television producer and director. He is the founder and current chief executive officer (CEO) of The Nacelle Company and its subsidiary company, Comedy Dynamics. Volk-Weiss is the creator, producer, and occasional director of the current Netflix series, '' The Toys That Made Us'' and '' The Movies That Made Us'', along with the television specials, '' Kevin Hart's Guide to Black History'' and ''Discontinued'' (originally on The CW). The Bild Lilli doll was a German fashion doll launched on August 12, 1955, and produced until 1964. Its design was based on the comic-strip character Lilli, created by Reinhard Beuthien for the German tabloid newspaper ''Bild''. The doll was made of polystyrene, came in two sizes, and had an available wardrobe of 1950s fashion. Ruth Marianna Handler ( Mosko; November 4, 1916 – April 27, 2002) was an American businesswoman and inventor. Best known for inventing the Barbie doll in 1959, she served as the first president of toy manufacturer Mattel, Inc., which she co-founded with her husband in January 1945 until 1974 when the Handlers were forced to resign from Mattel, and in 1978 Ruth Handler was convicted of false reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
