The Stahlman
The Stahlman is a historic building in Nashville, Tennessee, U.S. It was completed in 1907 for Major Edward Bushrod Stahlman. History It was built by Major Edward Bushrod Stahlman. When the Stahlman building opened in 1907, it housed the Fourth National Bank. The original vault still resides in the basement. It remained in the Stahlman family until the 1950s. With Over 100 years old, the building has been renovated into loft apartments and retail space.} Since 1967, its roof has featured large neon letters spelling the callsign of radio station WKDF (and before that, its predecessor, WKDA), which occupied part of the building until moving to new facilities in 1978. The Life & Casualty Tower (also known as the L & C Tower) is a skyscraper in Nashville, Tennessee located at 401 Church Street. It stands 152.5 meters (409 ft) and has 30 floors. It was designed by Edwin A. Keeble, with structural engineering done by Ross Bryan Associates, and was finished in 1957. It was Nashville's first true skyscraper and the tallest in Tennessee until 1965, when 100 North Main Street in Memphis surpassed it. Exterior materials are limestone, granite, and bright green glass windows. Intersecting curves and angles at the building's base focus attention on the entrance, which angles out to the corner of Church Street and 4th Avenue. In the building's early days, the L&C sign at its apex functioned as a weather beacon, changing color to indicate the weather forecast. The transmitter site is in Brentwood, Tennessee, and its studios are located in Nashville's Music Row district. WKDF formerly broadcast one channel in the HD format: a simulcast of the analog (traditional) signal. History WKDF was first licensed, as WNFO-FM, in 1962 to the Hickory Broadcasting Corporation. It was the second commercial Nashville station to be assigned to 103.3 MHz, preceded by the original WSM-FM, which occupied this frequency from 1947 until its deletion in 1951.
