''The Sky Lords'' (1988) is a science fiction novel by the Australian author, John Brosnan. It was published by VGSF and is the first book in the Sky Lords trilogy. It was followed in 1989 by ''War of the Sky Lords'' and in 1991 by ''The Fall of the Sky Lords''. The whole series was one of the first contemporary science fiction serials published in Eastern European countries like Bulgaria and Russia, in the early to mid-1990s, but, after a brief wave of popularity, has not been reprinted in paper since. Science Fiction
Science fiction (sometimes shortened to Sci-Fi or SF) is a genre of speculative fiction which typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, extraterrestrial life, sentient artificial intelligence, cybernetics, certain forms of immortality (like mind uploading), and the singularity. John Brosnan
John Raymond Brosnan (7 October 1947 – 11 April 2005) was an Australian writer of both fiction and non-fiction works in the fantasy and science fiction genres. He was born in Perth, Western Australia, and died in South Harrow, London, from acute pancreatitis. He sometimes published under the pseudonyms ''Harry Adam Knight'', ''Simon Ian Childer'' (both sometimes used together with Leroy Kettle), ''James Blackstone'' (used together with John Baxter), and ''John Raymond''. Three movies were based on his novels–''Beyond Bedlam'' (aka ''Nightscare''), ''Proteus'' (based on ''Slimer''), and '' Carnosaur''. In addition to science fiction, he also wrote a number of books about cinema and was a regular columnist with the popular UK magazine ''Starburst'' and comic 2000 AD. Victor Gollancz Ltd () was a major British book publishing house of the twentieth century and continues to publish science fiction and fantasy titles as an imprint of Orion Publishing Group. Gollancz was founded in 1927 by Victor Gollancz, and specialised in the publication of high-quality literature, nonfiction, and popular fiction, including crime, detective, mystery, thriller, and science fiction. Upon Gollancz's death in 1967, ownership passed to his daughter, Livia, who in 1989 sold it to Houghton Mifflin. Three years later in October 1992, Houghton Mifflin sold Gollancz to the publishing house Cassell & Co. Cassell and its parent company Orion Publishing Group were acquired by Hachette in 1996, and in December 1998 the merged Orion/Cassell group turned Gollancz into its science fiction/fantasy imprint.
