''The Singles Collect'' is a compilation album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy, released in 1999. The release serves as a collection of singles along with a few assorted promotional singles and alternate mixes. The compilation represents all of the singles released by Nettwerk before the band's move to American Recordings and subsequent break-up. On the rear cover, Track 8 is mistakenly titled "Spamsmolytic" instead of "Spasmolytic". Spasmolytic (song)
''Spasmolytic'' is a single by the band Skinny Puppy from the album ''Too Dark Park''. Deftones created a remix of the song that was included on '' Remix dystemper'' and the '' Saw IV soundtrack''. At a running time of 31:22, "Spasmolytic" is Skinny Puppy's longest 12-inch single. The cover art is by Jim Cummins (I, Braineater). The track "Harsh Stone White", when performed live, featured a backing video that, like the infamous ''Worlock'' video, consisted of frightening and graphic scenes from movies. Bill Leeb
Wilhelm Anton "Bill" Leeb (born 21 September 1966, in Vienna, Austria) is an Austrian-Canadian electronic musician and record producer. He is best known for being a founding member of the industrial music group Front Line Assembly. Additionally, Leeb is known for his work with groups such as Noise Unit, Delerium, Intermix, and Skinny Puppy, among others. Career Leeb began his musical career with industrial band Skinny Puppy in 1985 under the pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder, contributing bass synth and occasional backing vocals to a few of their recordings and concerts. He left in 1986 and formed his own industrial project Front Line Assembly with Michael Balch, and later Rhys Fulber and Chris Peterson. Though Front Line Assembly has had consistent underground success, Leeb's most widely known efforts are through his side project Delerium, which had a major hit in the late 1990s with "Silence". Fretless Bass
A fretless bass is a bass guitar whose neck does not have any frets. While the instrument is played in all styles of music, it is most common in pop, rock, and jazz. It first saw widespread use during the 1970s, although some players used them before then. Instead of being invented by an instrument manufacturer, the first fretless basses usually resulted from modifications made by bass guitar players. One of the first (if not the first) examples of this is Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, who removed the frets from his bass guitar in 1961 to fix a fret buzz issue. The first fretless bass to be produced by a designated company is the Ampeg AUB1, first released in 1965. Sampling (music)
In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape. The mid-20th century saw the introduction of keyboard instruments that played sounds recorded on tape, such as the Mellotron. Dwayne Goettel
Dwayne Rudolph Goettel (February 1, 1964August 23, 1995) was a Canadian electronic musician, best known for his work in the industrial music group Skinny Puppy. Starting his career playing for a variety of acts around Edmonton, he joined Skinny Puppy in 1986 following the departure of keyboardist Bill Leeb. A classically trained pianist, he helped to broaden Skinny Puppy's sound with his extensive knowledge of equipment and sampling. He assisted bandmate cEvin Key on a number of side projects such as The Tear Garden and Doubting Thomas, and helped form the experimental electronic group Download. He also created the independent record label Subconscious Communications with friend and colleague Phil Western as a means to release his solo work. CEvin Key
Kevin William Crompton (born February 13, 1961), known professionally as cEvin Key, is a Canadian musician, songwriter, producer, and composer. He is best known as a member of the industrial music group Skinny Puppy, which he co-founded in 1982 with singer Nivek Ogre. Initially a side project while he was with the new wave band Images in Vogue, Skinny Puppy quickly became his primary musical outlet after landing a record deal with Nettwerk Records in 1984. When Skinny Puppy disbanded in 1995 following the death of keyboardist Dwayne Goettel, Key's main project became the electronic noise group Download, whose first album, ''Furnace'', was released that same year. His first solo album, ''Music For Cats'', was released in 1998 on Subconscious Communications, an independent record label he took over following Goettel's death. Nivek Ogre
Kevin Graham Ogilvie (born December 5, 1962), known professionally as Nivek Ogre, is a Canadian musician, performance artist and actor, best known for his work with the industrial music group Skinny Puppy, which he co-founded with cEvin Key. Since 1982, he has served as Skinny Puppy's primary lyricist and vocalist, occasionally providing instrumentation and samples. Ogre's charismatic personality, guttural vocals and use of costumes, props, and fake blood on stage helped widen Skinny Puppy's fanbaseReed (2013): pp. 176-182 and has inspired numerous other musicians. In 2001, he formed the electronic music group ohGr along with longtime collaborator Mark Walk. ''Remission'' is a 1984 EP by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy, their record label debut and first release with Nettwerk. The 12-inch EP originally featured six tracks, then, a year later in 1985, it was released on cassette with five additional songs that lengthened the release to a full album. This expansion became the default version of ''Remission''. ''Remission'' was certified gold by Music Canada on January 31, 2000. Release history In December 1984, ''Remission'' was distributed through Nettwerk as Skinny Puppy's first major release. ''Last Rights'' is the seventh studio album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy. It was released in March 1992 as the group's final record distributed through Nettwerk. ''Last Rights'' saw the band experimenting with two opposite extremes: cacophonous heavy music and gloomy melodies, resulting in moments of industrial weight as well as moments of uncharacteristic softness. Along with containing some of the band's most impenetrable walls of sound and an eleven-minute track composed almost entirely of manipulated and distorted samples, ''Last Rights'' also features Skinny Puppy's first ballad. The album's production was troubled both internally and externally, involving tension within the band and threatened litigation from without. After its release, it was followed by Skinny Puppy's last tour for twelve years. Cleanse Fold And Manipulate
''Cleanse Fold and Manipulate'' is the third studio album by Canadian electro-industrial group Skinny Puppy. The album was released in 1987 and was supported by a single, "Addiction". The album was further supported by the ''Head Trauma'' tour, which spanned across North America and Europe. '' Ain't it Dead Yet?'', a recording of the group performing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was released on video in 1989 and CD in 1991. Music ''Cleanse Fold and Manipulate'' explores a number of different topics concerning medicine, society, and politics. The song "First Aid" addresses what was the growing AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, while "Second Tooth" concerns with the struggles faced by Vietnam War veterans, namely post-traumatic stress. The song "Deep Down Trauma Hounds" was written following a string of teenage suicides in the United States.
