''The Single File'' is a video compilation and box set by the English musician Kate Bush. The video compilation album was released in 1983, and it contains the first twelve videos released by the artist. It was followed by a boxset, ''The Single File 1978~1983'' containing thirteen singles on individual vinyl records. Kate Bush
Catherine Bush (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, record producer and dancer. In 1978, at the age of 19, she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights (song), Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song. Bush has since released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka (song), Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill", "Don't Give Up (Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush song), Don't Give Up" (a duet with Peter Gabriel) and "King of the Mountain (Kate Bush song), King of the Mountain". Sat In Your Lap
"Sat in Your Lap" (1981) is a song by English art rock musician Kate Bush. It was the first single to be released from her fourth studio album, ''The Dreaming'' (1982), though it was issued 15 months prior to the album, which was nowhere near completion at that time. The single peaked at no. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. Music Musically, the single was faster and more percussive than Bush's previous releases. It features Preston Heyman on drums recorded in the stone room at the Townhouse Studio 2, London, and Paddy Bush and Preston on whip-like percussion (actually played on bamboo canes swooshing through the air rhythmically). Critic Simon Reynolds called it "an avant-pop stampede of pounding percussion and deranged shrieks, a sister-song to Public Image Ltd's ' Flowers of Romance'." Suspended In Gaffa
"Suspended in Gaffa" is a song recorded by English art rock singer Kate Bush. It was the fourth single release from her album ''The Dreaming''. "Suspended in Gaffa" was released as a single in continental Europe and Australia, but not in the UK. The song lyrics are about seeing something one really wants (God in this case), then not being able to see or experience it ever again. The "gaffa" of the title and chorus refers to gaffer tape, the strong matte black tape used by technicians in the film and concert industries. The B-side is the original mix of " Ne t'enfuis pas", which is misspelled on the original sleeve as "Ne T'en Fui Pas", and was only released on a handful of singles in late 1982. ''On Stage'' is a live recording of four songs performed on Kate Bush's Tour of Life in 1979. It was released on 31 August 1979 and peaked at number 10 on the UK chart. Background ''On Stage'' was recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon on 13 May 1979. It became Bush's first official (non- bootlegged) live performance on vinyl. The EP was the only audio (non-bootleg) recording of Kate Bush live for years, until 1994 when 60 minutes of the concert was released on Audio CD. Although the recordings are purportedly all from the same date, the four tracks on this EP are quite different from those of the later release. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Use of this language has largely declined in the 21st century as the music industry has transitioned away from analog recordings towards digital formats without physical sides, such as CDs, downloads and streaming. Gramophone Record
A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. At first, the discs were commonly made from shellac, with earlier records having a fine abrasive filler mixed in. Starting in the 1940s polyvinyl chloride became common, hence the name vinyl. The phonograph record was the primary medium used for music reproduction throughout the 20th century. It had co-existed with the phonograph cylinder from the late 1880s and had effectively superseded it by around 1912. Boxed Set
A box set or (its original name) boxed set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box and offered for sale as a single unit. Music Artists and bands with an extremely long and successful career often have anthology or "essential" collections of their boxes of music released as box sets. These often include rare and never-before-released tracks. Some box sets collect previously released boxes of singles or albums by a music artist, and often collect the complete discography of an artist such as Pink Floyd's ''Oh, by the Way'' and ''Discovery'' sets.
