The 49th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) (Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot was a line infantry regiment of the British Army, raised in 1743. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot to form the Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire Regiment) in 1881. History Early wars The regiment was raised in Jamaica by Colonel Edward Trelawney as Edward Trelawney's Regiment of Foot in 1743 from eight independent local companies. The regiment was ranked as the 63rd Regiment of Foot in 1747 and re-ranked as the 49th Regiment of Foot in 1751. Regimental sergeant major (RSM) is an appointment that may be held by warrant officers class 1 (WO1) in the British Army, the British Royal Marines and in the armies of many other Commonwealth and former Commonwealth nations, including Australia, Kenya and New Zealand. It is also an appointment that may be held by chief warrant officers (CWO) in the Canadian Forces and warrant officers of any grade in the Singapore Armed Forces, and is a rank in itself in the Irish Defence Forces and formerly in the British Army, Royal Marines and United States Army. Only one warrant officer holds the appointment of RSM in a regiment or battalion, making them the senior warrant officer; in a unit with more than one WO1, the RSM is considered to be " first amongst equals". The 37th Battalion (Northern Ontario), CEF, was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War. History The battalion was authorized on 7 November 1914 and embarked for Great Britain on 27 November 1915. It provided reinforcements to the Canadian Corps in the field until 9 July 1916, when its personnel were absorbed by the 39th Battalion, CEF. The battalion was disbanded on 21 May 1917. The 19th Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF was an infantry battalion of the First World War Canadian Expeditionary Force. History The battalion was originally raised at Exhibition Place, Exhibition Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 6 November 1914. 2nd Battalion, CEF
The 2nd Battalion (Eastern Ontario Regiment), Canadian Expeditionary Force was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Army created in response to outbreak of the First World War in August 1914. The battalion comprised local militia in many regions of Ontario (and even from Quebec City). Men came from as far away as Sault Ste. Marie to join in Canada's military endeavour. Local militia gathered at Valcartier, in August 1914 and became part of the 2nd Battalion. Recruitment The original officers were drawn from the various regiments that recruited for the battalion, including the Governor General's Foot Guards of Ottawa, the 16th Prince Edward Regiment, the 40th Northumberland Regiment, the 41st Brockville Rifles, and the 42nd Lanark and Renfrew Regiment, among others. West Nipissing is a municipality in Northeastern Ontario, Canada, on Lake Nipissing in the Nipissing District. Thessalon
Thessalon is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located at the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 129 on the north shore of Lake Huron. It is surrounded by, but not part of, the municipality of Huron Shores, and is part of Algoma District. The main industries are timber and tourism. The town is a popular retirement community. It is the administrative headquarters of the Thessalon First Nation an Ojibwe First Nations with a reserve, Thessalon 12. History Appears on early maps as Tessalon (Galinée, 1670), and later as Pointe aux Thessalons (Bellin, 1775). A corruption of an earlier Amerindian descriptive Neyashewun, meaning "a point of land". The region was first surveyed in 1869. The survey was done to determine if the area could support a viable lumber industry.
