The Public (opera)
''The Public (El público), opera in five scenes with a prologue'' is an opera by the Spanish composer Mauricio Sotelo. The libretto was written by Andrés Ibáñez, based on the play of the same name by Federico García Lorca. It premiered on February 24, 2015, at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Spain. This creation was a new production commissioned by Gerard Mortier, artistic director of the Teatro Real de Madrid between 2010 and 2013. ''The Public'' (''El público''), also known as ''The Audience'', is a play by the twentieth-century Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca. It was written between 1929 and 1930. The two complete manuscripts which once existed have not been found, and may be lost. Thomas Tatzl
Thomas Tatzl (born 1980) is an Austrian operatic bass-baritone. Life Born in Aflenz, Steiermark, Tatzl first received singing lessons from Sigrid Rennert and later took up studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. He then moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he studied with Karlheinz Hanser (opera) and Robert Holl (lied and oratorio). He also took part in master classes with Thomas Quasthoff, Helena Łazarska and Tom Krause. In 2010, he graduated with honours in song and opera. Alexander Polzin (born 1973) is a German sculptor, painter, graphic artist, costume and set designer. Life Born in Berlin, originally trained as a stonemason, Polzin launched his international career as a freelance sculptor, painter, graphic artist and stage designer in 1991, building on the success of his first exhibition in Berlin's Kulturhaus-Pankow four years earlier. In 1994 Polzin was invited by Dr. Gary Smith, founding director of the Einstein Forum in Potsdam, to present the first exhibition of solo work at the Institute: Arbeiten im Einstein Forum. Pablo Heras-Casado
Pablo Heras-Casado (born 1977) is a Spanish conductor. Early life The son of a retired police officer, he began singing with a school choir at the age of seven and piano lessons at the age of nine. He studied music at the conservatory in Granada. He later attended the Universidad de Granada, concentrating on art history and acting. He studied conducting further at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares. His conducting teachers have included Harry Christophers and Christopher Hogwood. Career In the mid-1990s, Heras-Casado participated in the founding of the early music ensemble ''Capella Exaudi''. Gerard Mortier
Gerard Alfons August, Baron Mortier (25 November 1943 – 8 March 2014) was a Belgian opera director and administrator of Flemish origin. Biography Born in Ghent, the son of a baker, Mortier attended in youth the Jesuit private school Sint-Barbaracollege, following the death of his mother. He subsequently studied law and journalism at Ghent University. Mortier pursued apprenticeships in opera administration under Christoph von Dohnányi in Frankfurt and Rolf Liebermann in Paris. He worked for the Flanders Festival from 1968 to 1972. His first major administrative post was as the general director of La Monnaie (De Munt) in Brussels from 1981 to 1991, where he was credited with artistically rejuvenating the company.
